Hi Isaiah,
I would like to have written to you privately but wasnt sure of your email. I have written a post over on my site about Ronaldinho, Deco and Eto´o leaving Barca, and as a Barca fan I wondered what you think. I hope you have the time to read. Thanks anyway, and good luck next season – I visited the Nou Camp in the past campaign and it reinforced my opinion on what a great club it is.

Can Hernanes play left wing at all? Also, if we buy 2 more center forwards with the money from the Eto’o transfer, Henry will not be a happy man. If we do decide to make another purchase, Mancini would be solid, as he’s relatively cheap, being in the next-to-last year of his contract (a la Giovani).

I wonder if Guardiola will promote any of these players directly to the first team. If any play 10 games for the senior team they can’t play for Barca B. I can’t imagine Thiago or Gai playing that many for the senior squad. He may want them to train with the first team but surely they would benefit more from the competition provided from week-in week-out matches. As needed they could get some playing time for the senior squad in matches in the cup etc. without having much of an impact on the B team.
We should just keep Marc Crosas as our 6th choice central midfielder (presuming Yaya, Keita, Iniesta, Xavi and Hernanes). He can pass up to the usual standard that our youth system produces and Lyon seem to think that he is good enough to keep.
If we complete the signing of Hernanes as expected for a fee of around €14million then we will have completed our midfield for €28million, not bad.
A lot spent on defense but because of the type bought, we should not need to spend anything for the next few seasons. In theory anyway. Maybe a new set of backup fullbacks.
Up front, we have at least 3 of the 6 slots open filled. Messi, Bojan and Henry have their places assured. If Eto’o stays thats another. If he leaves, I would probably spend that €35/40million on two different types of forward, Huntelaar and Palacio, both of whom we could get for the total of Eto’o. We would also have to buy a left winger. If Lukas Podolski continues like he is in the Euros he may be an option. Mancini is another obvious one and maybe Hatem Ben Arfa could be another in that vein.
Remember, this past season we had Ronnie, Messi, Eto’o, Henry, Bojan, Giovani, Ezquerro and Gudjohnsen in our squad. Signing three more and having Gai Assulin step up if needed would leave us in the same situation
