Barca vs Seattle Sounders, 9:30 p.m. CT, ESPN2
By: Kevin | August 5th, 2009
“I look down at everything you mere mortals throw at me, because my ambition is so much bigger.”*
The U.S. tour continues, this time in Seattle vs the Sounders. Training has been going along and these matches are part of it. Again, we should see wholesale substitutions as everybody gets a runout (except for The Nose, who should debut in the Gamper match).
So I won’t even speculate about lineups, or the weather, or the state of the world’s economy. Instead I’ll just say that the match will be available in beeeyooootiful HD, so we shouldn’t have any of those “Who was that who made that pass?” moments.
Excited yet? Expect the team to stay on mission, which is to give folks a show, and not break anything.
*Except for The Yaya

Oh, and I’m not worried about Alonso. People say it’s the missing piece, but how do we know that they only need one piece, you know what I mean? On paper it looks good, but I would withhold judgment until I see them in a meaningful game on the pitch.
But again, we only need to worry about them twice this year. I don’t see all the teams around La Liga strengthening, and those are the teams we face week in, week out. Worry about our matches. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there. And I’m sure Pep will be telling them the same thing everyday in training. You can already see it in the interviews with the players.

I know, Jnice. But as with last season, the Clasicos could decide the league.

True, but that’s all the more reason for us to focus on the teams we face each week in order to gain maximum points.

Excuse if its a dumb question but the curiosity is killing me:

Anna, it’s the sun protection factor of sunscreen, playing off Iniesta’s paleness.
And you’re right, Jnice. Had we not had that clunky stretch against the likes of Espanyol, the second Clasico wouldn’t have mattered, except for bragging rights.

When you think about it, the EE is worth the same as Almeria or Málaga to us: 6 points.
Same applies to us.
I actually think this is will be a VERY interesting experiment. On paper, Xabi Alonso completes the puzzle. Will it be the same in real life? This is not Football Manager, after all. This has never really been done before. Replacing almost a whole team for that obscene amount of money.
If Arbeloa starts at Left Back, and Albiol at CB, it will be them two, Alonso, Kaka, Thong Boy, and Benzema as fully new starters. 6 of 11 starters will be completely brand spanking new to the team. I dont think that has ever been seen before. The closest thing is Chelsea (and note that they won the EPL and lost in the Semis of the EPL in their first year with Abramovich) but the likes of Lampard and Terry were already there and Mourinho’s biggest acquisitions in his first year were Drogba, and CB’s Ferreria and Carvalho with whom he was already very familiar with from Porto. Also, he did not play nor did he have to play the beautiful football required of RM. No, this is something very new. A line up straight from Isaiah’s fantasy football league. It will be interesting.
That said, I refuse to believe that a team assembled since the mid early and mid 90’s when Xavi and Puyol were in La Masia, who know each other so well, who have known ultimate victory and ultimate defeat, whose superstar cost 0 in transfer fees, and who have a coach as obsessive as we have, will lose to a team assembled in an instant from pure money. It will not happen. Not now. The shiny new boys will have to fight, claw, and earn it.

Hector, with the logic.
Except as we all know, coaches won’t get in trouble or fired for losing to Almeria.
. And cules won’t cry into their agua.I think that if we can get off to a fast start, we could be gone by the time anyone realizes it. And they aren’t getting sides that we’ve softened up for them this year.
And I daresay that people will be spoiling to beat the Glamor Boys, more than the Best Team On the Planet.

I’m excited for this match. Hope we put some goals in the back of the net, so it could be more enjoyable when I watch the game again. Like Hector, (or at least I think like Hector), I usually watch Barça matches twice or sometimes even 3x. I usually try to re-watch it in Spanish even though I’m not fluent, just to hear reactions to our play. I watch the CL final 8x I think. Ranging from ESPN, Sky Sports, ITV, 3 different Spanish stations, and RAI Italia. I’m weird, I know.

Getting excited for the match! Lineups available?? 10:30 over here on the east coast…right? Well it wasn’t on ESPN2 36 minutes ago so it must be…
Alonso’s purchase sinks our chances of Mascherano. Sheit. And yes, we may only face them twice a year (but let’s see what happens with Copa and CL, who knows it could be as many as six), but if they’re what we’re fearing the danger will be the points they’re shaving off other teams.
But you’re right, all. The idea is not to panic and stick to our game.
I hope this will be the year of a beautiful partnership between Pedro! and Ibrahimovic. Put THAT in your pipe and smoke it

If you guys are ever confused about what time a game is starting, just use the converter on myp2p.eu It’s that little Timezone drop down menu on the top of the screen.
Choose your GMT time (GMT-5 for Chicago in daylights savings time, GMT-6 otherwise) and all the games are converted over. So today’s game is at 21:30, which is 9:30PM for those on a 12-hour clock.

Marquez is out for 10-15 days for some type of leg injury. Maybe this is why Pep wants Chygrynskiy?
