Confederations Cup match comments post
By: Kevin | June 17th, 2009It’s Spain vs Iraq, a bus-parking, potentially sacrificial lamb, looking to 0-0 its way through the group stage.
Good luck with that. Spain has a couple of injuries to deal with, which is my biggest horror of what is really a C-list tournament.
Ugh.
At any rate, here’s a place for those match comments but mostly, here’s a new thread.
There will be another one later, with pictures even, on a surpriiiiise topic.
Yay!
This post has been edited. A couple of folks found the football-based humor in bad taste. Apologies to anyone who found it so.

Agree with you completely Ciaran. Some people need to chill out over there, but it’s one of the first sites I visit in the morning.

They do a magnificent job there. Every day they must visit and translate virtually every football site and then put it all in one place.
I have an idea – if we have more than the €35m to spend…
Sergio Asenjo’s buyout clause is €5.5m. Sign him and loan him for 1 season.
Valencia badly need money but don’t want to lose players so we could buy Raul Albiol and loan him back for a season, taking into consideration that Marquez and Puyol will both have to be replaced within 2 years, giving us a defensive lineup of
- – - Asenjo – - -
Albiol – - – Piquewhich would probably last us most part of a decade. The rest of the spine would probably include Busquets, Iniesta, Messi & Bojan, as well as probably Cesc, Thiago, Muniesa and Victor Sanchez if they continue their progression.
What a great base that would provide for us to add cantera players to.Posted from

I think that the whole 35-46 mil thing is a ploy to get people to lower their price on players…
Players want to come to us, but every team thinks that just because we want their player, that they are worth 50-70 mil.
Madrid messed up the market, so i think that number is just our strategy.
It also tells teams that we wont be held for ransom. If teams want to sell us their players, they will have to get a reasonable price. If players want to come, their Agents are going to have to pressure the clubs.

Here we go again..
I’m loving this.. the covers of both Sport and As are diametrically opposite.. Both claim he’s heading to Barca/Madrid based on his single quote..
And judging by the comments down at the Valencia Offside, Albiol isn’t highly rated.. While discussing Pool’s apparent interest in him, some replied “Liverpool want Albiol to score own goals for them”.. Maybe it was a joke..
But that’s the thing about jokes.. As Ramzi put it so eloquently, ‘its humor here terror there’..

Regarding transfer budget. In my opinion, Its not true that we will only spend 35 M and no cent more . lets think about it realistically:
Are we going to start the season without one of Ribery, Villa, or Ibra? Unlikely.
Any of the mentioned targets will cost over 45 M for sure. Which mean the need of 10 M over the mentioned budget.
Who are we going to sell? we won’t gather over 15 millions selling players. (I am talking about players whom we can afford selling). Thats 50 M. barely enough for the first signing.
Then you need LB?
Simply doesn’t make sense. Thats why I believe both the budget announcement ant the shopping slow pace are tactics, nothing more.
Where is the new article, Kxevin? Dont make interesting announcements long before you post it. Not cool!

so i just watched the disaster that was Argentina v. Ecuador. and who wants to put a fiver on Riquelme outlasting Maradona, the former coming in to save the day after the latter is forced out?

Why is the Yaya swap still cropping up even after the news he’ll sign a new contract with Barca this week.

If we have a budget of 40-45M then, we will be left with a budget of about 5M, if we buy Villa. Then, we must sell to increase it. So, selling Eto’o for around 25-30M, we increase it to about 30-40M. I think that this money is enough to buy a decent winger and even a replacement for Xavi/Iniesta or a left-back.

lol I love it that people are now saying Barca can’t sign such and such a player because we only have 35 mil to spend, so Villa is going to Madrid… This is fantastic.
35 mil + Etoo and Guddy’s sales and Valdes if he goes, I think we have enough for a big name and 3 squad players.

Is that Etoo to Man C true? and his wages? that’s a lot!

I wanna ask a hypothetical question..
Supposing that we do sell Eto’o, but fail to ‘fish’ Villa (As the Spanish Websites call it..) and seeing that Ibra is too pricey, which CF do you want to see in the Colours next season?

I was going to say something similar to what Ramzi said regarding this transfer limit of 35m. It is a tactic, nothing more. We should have at least double that even before we sell any players. Last year we paid 30m for a right back, believe me the club can spend. We just won 3 trophies, that is a lot of prize money and the prize money always outweighs the incentive payouts. They are specifically calculated that way.
This is a tactic and a clever one. We are setting the bar low, so when we walk into negotiations everybody knows there is no way we will pay what madrid are paying for players. We will not allow overvaluations to dictate the way we spend. We will spend, but we will do so intelligently. We are not in a deperate situation like RM so we dont need to act like them. Also they have now made their two big money signings, i dont see them buying another player over 50m. I dont think they will get either Villa or Ribery and forget about Ibra. I think we will end up with Villa and maybe Ribery if Bayern come to their senses. We dont really need Ribery though, he would be an excellent signing for us and would add amazing depth to the forward line, but he is not worth over 40m and we shouldnt spend a penny more than that on him. We are not going to let clubs push us around and this is the message we are sending out. If you want to come to the negotiating table then be reasonable, or we will go somewhere else. If Ribery fails there are plenty of other options out there; Aguero, Silva, Robinho, RVP, Mata, etc. Ribery is not the only good LW player on the market. I guarantee they ALL would love to play for us. Right now we are the team to beat, we are the benchmark and all the others are trying to play catchup. So let them play, we will make our signings at the right time and for the right price. Have faith in the men that just made football history…

Vj, if we are considering finances: I say we sign Keirrison and switch between Henry and him as central striker while he develops and adapts, and give Bojan more playing time.
But if we are talking completely hypothetically: Benzema. Or maybe Aguero. Or Fernando Torres.

here’s an article:
whttp://www.sedeportivo.com/2009/05/el-barcelona-y-la-seleccion-espanola.html
“Ball circulation, associative and imaginative style and the search of the opponent’s goal is the dominant philosophy now. They are the creed of Barça and la Roja. A club and a national team with direct influence in each other’s succes”.
is this more like your library talk?
you can get offended all you want by my attitude or my words, which is kinda a girly thig to do. it is not my intention to hurt anyones feelings, I just say what I think freely.
