I want to believe….I do….I do

By: Kevin | June 11th, 2009

Dear Joan:

These are the times that try cule souls. That other Spanish team just bought Kaka, for 67 million. In the same week, they bought themselves a Thong Boy, for 94 million. Word is that David Villa is next on the list, probably for around 50 million.

Our finance chief, Xavier Sala i Martin, is wondering where they’re getting the money.

I’m wondering what the hell we’re doing. I trust in our people, in Pep Guardiola, the man who grabbed us the triplete his first season at helm, in Txiki B., who has made (almost) all of the right decisions, and yes, Hleb might still pan out.

My very soul is pulsating with trust. I know how we work, I know we don’t splash money around, I know we make smart decisions.

But we have to improve for next season, irrespective of what those spendthrifts are doing, and I want signs. I do. Don’t tell me that you love me and have my best interests at heart. Show me, with shiny trinkets. Give me a big Swede. Give me reliable backups for right and left back. Give me a good mid, so that Xavi won’t have to play every minute of every critical match this coming season.

I don’t ask much for my love, just a little gesture that lets me relax, that lets me know that you do care, that you are worried about me, that you don’t want me to be sad next season.

Affectionately yours,
My Blaugrana Heart

    @OhYes
OK, I didn’t Madridistas were complaining about Robben. He saved their asses quite a number of times didn’t he?

WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN TO KLAAS JAN SKELETOOR?!?! everyone’s speculating on ruud, higuain, raul’s futures but have we forgotten about real’s mid season 20 mil emergency signing? it’s a shame, he’s a player who a lot of teams could have benefited from but instead he’s be shoved into the corner at madrid.

i really wanted villa to come here, our styles compliment each other perfectly but EE seem terrifyingly close to signing him.

i’ve expressed my concerns before but i am really starting to get worried about next season. real “building up”, 2 supercups, club world cup, fatigue from international duty, pressure from being defending champions, bus parking, regrouping our attackline, players gone for the african cup… argggh. i know i am just listing all the negatives and there are probably just as many upsides but i can’t help but get a bit nervous :/

Tutomate, I meant the “show Eto’o some respect” link that was posted.

And as the creator of Thong Boy, only I can give those rights away, dammit!

    :D

Vj is right, Corey. It’s all yours. It came about because of some good-natured trash talking betwixt the Man U blog and us last season, and I said that he stood in the odd way he does before free kicks, because he wears a thong.

    Yes, I am worried too,

and I say Please, Please, Please buy Villa from Valencia , without waiting for a second. He is the most suitable for FCB, and I think it will suit him much better than the arch-rivals from Madrid.
He`s got character, so hopefully he can still be persuaded.

Is anybody listening in the deciding circles?????

Listen to this song. Seriously…and take it to heart. Whatever happens, will happen. There’s nothing you gain by worrying about it. Some of us are getting what during the past Galacticos era was called Madriditis, worrying about every single move they made and becoming paranoid in the process. Chill. This is Pep, Laporta and Txiki not that idiot Gaspart or that miser Nuñez.

BTW My zen-ish approach is after years of self-torture during the transfer season.

    I`m Zen too,
but somehow I feel that these past days the earth is trembling under the feet. In short, there is no place for complacency, time is very short. (These guys in Madrid didn`t wait a second..)

    LOL

My goodness. This is well and truly fucked up. According to Sid Lowe’s latest, the bank financing Florentino’s spending spree in non other than the one in arguably the best financial condition after the crisis, none other than Catalunya’s very own La Caixa.

I’m speechless. I don’t know whether to scream for a boycott and treat them as the financial equivalent of Luis Figo or laugh that Catalan’s effectively own Real Madrid right now.

I’m a “take it easy on Eto’o ” guy , but I don’t think Eto’o had a similar number of team-carrying performances as Robben did for Madrid. Him and Higuain were doing all the creation and scoring for significant stretches of Madrid’s season

    Madrista?!

Barca made my year! I was in such a euphria these past weeks, I still am, but events seem to cut it short and against my will. Sometimes, time for action comes sooner than we wish.
(I know the Madrista way, or whatever they call themselves,
they could not stand it that Barca wins, and the money is pouring and pouring…
I like Barca because for me it`s a force for good,
but one should not be naive in crucial times.)

Afraid I am. Just google Caixa and Florentino and see what pops up. Like I said, I dont know whether to call a boycott or laugh that Catalans technically own over 20% of RM right now.

Corey, my man. Florentino is apparently winning. Madriditis is making a come back. My fellow cules are apparently scared shitless right now. Culés, CHILLLLLLLL. We’ll see what Txiki and Pep have in store. We won the motherfucking treble. I’m more worried about Man U with 80 mill than RM buying all the attacking power in the world and trying to fit them in the same formation. We’ll beat them 10-9 if they continue like that. How quickly we forget that the story of the Galacticos was a financial and image success rather than a true sporting one….

The Galacticos won the same # of Ligas that Calderon’s Madrid while Barca flayed in the wind due to Gasparts mismanagement. We’ve seen this script before. Think of Valencia and Super Depor. They can have the “prestige” and superstars, we’ll take the titles. Its a new world. The market is more saturated than when the original Galacticos were around. The same business model does not apply. Florentino will learn that the hard way.

    @Corrine

Crikey, when you think about it Real is basically financing the entire European Transfer Market.

They Gave Man U €95m and Milan €65 (keep in mind Barca spend ~€50m *net* last season); Those two will pass that money onto the 2nd Tier of top Clubs (Wigan, Wolfsburg, Bayern, Lyon etc.). Those 2nd Tier Clubs will then use their windfall to snap up ‘unknowns’ and good players from 3rd Tier teams (2nd Division Teams in Top leagues and lower table teams from 2nd Tier Leagues)

Imagine if City and Chelsea get their spending motors going.

I just hope some of this money winds up in Spain or we will have a very top heavy Liga with all that money floating around in Italy, England, France and Germany.

That’s a great point, Maximus. People are saying that with Kaka and Thong Boy, La Liga will now be the one to watch but its more like Barca and Madrid are the ones to watch. I’m afraid that may well be the case. That’s why I’m rooting for Valenciat to dig out from its financial grave and Atleti to get an actual defense.

    wow good observation

i just hope their ridiculous spending doesn’t inflate the value of every player because of the competition they’re creating. this better end soon so we can have order in the footballing world again

does anyone know how much money we got for every competition we won?

i only remember this from a long time ago:

No Idea how much money we got but I don’t believe prices will be inflated. Man City got Barry for 12m, which just goes to show these prices are only applicable to players who can recoup that value in shirt sales and image rights. Additionally Madrid (and Barcelona) will probably wait until late in the season when players are furious with their clubs for asking too much (ala Arshavin) and the Clubs need to cash in before they get a dud.

So I’m personally not concerned about Real’s splashing making us pay more.

Btw Ibra won’t go for 70m…he can’t make it back in image rights at Barcelona (in my opinion). So if he doesn’t come for 50m (part of which will depend on performance) or in a trade…he isn’t coming.

Are Barcelona still ‘ugprading’ the stadium? That could be a large factor in the spending imo.

ahhhh. so this is what football is really about! thanks for telling me, i have wondered about it for some time.

let me tell you, barcelona and real madrid are the same thing. only difference is that barcelona have some home-grown players. but the fans… they all are as greedy.

jvk … that was an insult.

we are not greedy. we want we are not out there trying to buy every star. Most of us even acknowledge that we want Zlatan OR Ribery. We do not want ever superstar out there. We merely want to stay competitive because our playbook from this year will be meticulously studied by 19 Spanish teams, in additions to about 3-4 teams each from Germany, England, Italy and France.
