Statshots
By: Isaiah | May 29th, 2007Here are this week’s statshots.

You’ll note automatically that Barcelona are on top of this chart. And that’s where they should be. Honestly. Head-to-head? What is this, the NFL? Why do we even keep track of goal differential anymore? Good point, Isaiah. The thing is, that probably sounds bitter, or sour grape-ish, but really, I always just figured that goal difference was how they did it in the World Cup for a reason: because it’s a better judge of how good a team is than 2 matches. That’s right. No doubt Mauricio currently has a different viewpoint on this, but whatever, he hates flowers, ponies, and happiness. Did I just write that?
You’ll also note that poor old ‘Nastic are truly and completely relegated. It’s official: they’re gone from the first division. Back to the dungeons with you, Gimnastic de Tarragona! It’s sad, really, but I don’t think anyone except the most faithful fans would have put money on them staying up, especially not after the first half of the season. It’s likely that Real Sociedad will join them as they lost this weekend, but Celta made a move by winning

Barcelona merely improved their home record, moving to a cool 77% win record at the Camp Nou while maintaining the only unbeaten home record in La Liga. Woohoo. Only one game left at home, but it’s the Catalan derby against Espanyol and that’s no joke, especially if Ronnie is out.
I’ll be back with more later, no doubt.
