Summer 2012 Transfer Window Master Post

By: Ade C. | July 7th, 2012

Summer Transfer Season started a few days ago and Barça quickly snapped up Jordi Alba in a move which not even I can disagree with. However, in spite of months of rumours and an objective list longer than Messi’s List of Broken Records, there doesn’t seem to be another signing in the nearby horizon.

Of course, we could throw aside all dignity and professionalism and just make up transfer rumours until September, like ‘real’ sports media do, but instead we’ll just leave this post open and ready to be updated if/when there are actual transfers.

ETA The First: not six hours after we posted this, Seydou Keita announced that he is leaving the club this summer. We jinxed it, didn’t we?

ETA The Second (August 18): Barça sign Alex Song. See more here.

ETA The Third (August 31): Barça agree to loan Ibi Afellay to Schalke’04 for one season.

In the meanwhile, participate in our Transfer Polls: who should leave Barça? Who should come to Barça? Or share your favourite rumours in the comments section!

At least Pique did look good for Spain at the Euros, so maybe he'll have a renaissance year.

  • Promote Marc Bartra, Marc Muniesa and Martin Montoya. Voila! Now we have 3 left-backs (excluding Abidal), 5 centre-backs (including Fontas) and two right-backs. Do we really need more defenders?

There is a difference between just Defenders and Quality defenders.I still feel we need a good defender this year from the market

Yep, a big difference indeed. Remember when Fontas was promoted? He hardly left the bench. Then of course his injury ruled him out for the rest of the season, but realistically, he's not good enough to start - yet!
Bartra and Muniesa aren't at the same level as our usual CBs and until they are, we need a top defender to bridge the gap until they are.
