The Best of the FC Barcelona 2010/2011 Season: Best Goal

By: Ade C. | June 9th, 2011

The 2010/2011 season was one that Barça fans shouldn’t forget too quickly. We had success, we had heartbreak, we had an endless series of Clásicos, and we had some stunning goals.

Not all goals are created equal, after all...

Not all goals are created equal, after all...

Here, each of us share what our favourite Barça goal of the season was… share yours in the comments!

Pedro: You can point to a handful of goals from the likes of Messi, Pedro, Villa or the occasional from Iniesta, Xavi or even Alves. However, the break the potential Messi monopoly, the award goes to Abidal for his goal against Athletic Bilbao in the second leg of the Copa Del Rey round of 16. This was a traditional tooth n’ nail battle between both sides broken by the player you’d least expect to score. It was his very first goal for the club, a small gift for what had been and was an impressively strong season performance for the defender.

Brandon: Villa’s second in the manita against Madrid. The moment I realized, once and for all, that Messi is the world’s best player, with the assist (and thus, goal) of the season.

Isabella: For pure gasp-aloud-at-ridiculous-skill-involved, Messi v Panathanaikos. For comedic value, Bojan tripping over and falling into the net, taking the ball with him (Editor’s note: see below for Ade’s choice).

Ramzi: I’d say Messi’s first goal against Real Madrid in the Champions league (you know that Afellay cross), because it won us a Champions league. But his solo goal afterward that insured the qualification was pure beauty so I’ll go for that one.

Ken: the obvious: Leo Messi weaving through something like six Real Madrid players to score with his off foot. The goal that absolutely killed off the merengues chance of getting to Wembley. (Editor’s note: it bears watching again… and again… and again…)

But I’d like to mention a great score against Real Sociedad, when Messi and Alves combined not on a simple 1-2 rubber-band play, but a 1-2 1-2 1-2 series. A goal from absolutely nothing.

Ade: Bojan’s goal against Sevilla. What can I say, I can’t resist flawless finishings, nor the chance at a Bojan joke. (please, please, you’ve never taken me seriously, don’t start now…)

I was thinking exactly the same as puppet, whether the villa one against sevilla where he switch is so quickly to his left foot and after an amazing finish!! Pure class or that one he scored in the CL final, he made it look so easy and a world class goalkeeper as Edwin van Der saar wasn't even close to safe it!! So the best goal have to be given to villa!!

Messi's goal in UCL final for his ferocious celebration afterwards.  Just shows the extent to which he saves his emotion for the truly big moments, a sign of greatness is not to get too excited with the everyday accomplishments but to save up the energy and expectations for when it's all on the line.
