@Ciaran, I noticed in your Transfer-comment that u didnt recommend buying Right back. so the player to back up Alves will be one of the CBs.

But in case we need to think of a RB, how much you need to pay to buy a player that offers you a Puyol-ish Cl-final performance? If we can, I am all for it. Now of course Puyol will be older next season, but not too old to be reliable.

The good Fullbacks (Right fullbacks) will not join Barcelona to be benched in the presence of Alves. He barely need to rest 7 to 10 games per season. This is something any player who join Barcelona will be aware of. Reversing the case: What kind of fullbacks will accept joining Barcelona to play in such conditions?

If we Can find a quality Fullback who can play both on the left and the right, then Perfect. But Honestly I cant really find any realistic target. So, most probably we need the other guys we have to cover that position on the right when needed.

Maxwel, if getting him is possible, will be a big hit, a surprise for lot of people (Good surprise).

Beside Puyol, Pique and Henrique natural position is Right backward, they switched later on to play as CB.

I am not so sure how Caceres case will be managed. it feels that he still far from being Reliable. Henrique is also a gamble, regardless of his performance with the German team. Barcelona defense needs is different, ask caceres.

So, if next season we will have two caceres instead of one, and if we sold Milito, Marquez and Puyol getting one year older, Keita and Yaya going to play in Africa which means we may need Marquez as a DM, I dont know…

I think the transfers priority goes for some other departments. any extra money we spend on re-engineering defense will reduce out financial power to compete for quality signings where its more needed. Milito quality Vs selling price(at the moment) is much better compared to the quality of any player we may buy for the amount of money we may get from Milito sale. So Quality vs price, Milito is still a bargain. Again if he will be the Milito we knew before.

I don’t think Yaya would go anywhere. He seems to enjoy himself on the field and off the field, too.

Did Puyol steal the ball from Evra and CR7 before the 2nd goal finished United off?

I can only see those red boots on the left of the screen, so I think it must have been CR7. He ran between both of them, what a strike of fate and justice :D Cristiano is Cristiano, and Evra was so cocky in the interviews before the match.

Kxevin, you’ve said that the festivities shirts are for sale on the site. I definitely need one of those “Som Un; Copa Liga Champions”-Shirts, but I cannot find them on the official site. Could you help me out with a link? Thanks in advance.

He definitely stole it from Evra (im not sure if Thong Boy was in on the play). However, Thong Boy slacking off and jogging back is DEFINITELY what led to Xavi picking up Evra’s (HA!) poor clearence and putting in the cross for Messi to head in. In the Spanish Canal+ live broadcast they totally called him out as the play was unfolding (JUST before the goal).

Check this one out guys: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dwro_1ugAzo

It has Laporta and King Juan Carlos during the game, Pep during the game, and Pique committing vandalism and stealing both nets from the field :D among other things that weren’t shown in the broadcast.

I’m actually happy with the defenders we have now.
As i understand most would consider Alves-Marquez-Pique-Abidal ONE of our first choice back four right?

now we have Puyol, Henrique, Caceres, and Victor Sanchez who can cover for ALL FOUR positions. a 23 man squad cant really hold on to more than 8 defenders.

I’m all for letting Milito go. we just dont need so many defenders.

    Alves-Marquez-Pique-Abidal
    VicSan-Puyol-Hnrique-Caceres.

thats all we really need. Plus we have Muniesa warranting some game time, and apparenatly Yaya can go in there on an emergency, and we know Busi can probably cover well.

BTW… Marquez and Puyol are interchangeable there… i think both have their pros and cons, but the Marquez and Pique pairing rearly let any goals go in this seson. Alot less than Marquez-Puyol or Puyol-Pique pairings.

Which one do you guys go for? For my money, Messi is definitely The Bat Man.

Helge, just go to the main site (fcbarcelona.cat) and off the main page, go to the Botiga. You can pre-order from there. The site is being a little funky right now, or I’d post a link for you.

Ramzi makes sense about keeping Milito. I didn’t think of suddenly gaining a right back sub for Alves without disrupting the back line all that much.

I’m also glad that Busquets has come along so well, as we will be The Yaya-less for a month. Now we need Krkic to make some stuff happen this off season, so that the Eto’o absence (if he’s still in the colors) won’t sting as much.

How come no one is praising Eto’o for his goal over here? This man effectively killed this game in 10 minutes with a lightning quick Cobra like strike. Xavi, Iniesta, and Messi have come out in support of him at various times of the season. Ive read, on 3 separate occasions, Xavi stating that he is unequivocally the best striker in the world and that he always gives them a goal when they really need it. We don’t need to replace him, lets keep this guy. Yes he has ups and downs like any other striker, but 34 goals in a season on a team that doesn’t necessarily look for him at every possesion like Man U and thong boy is pretty good I say

First, EL TRIPLETE!!! I can’t believe it!!! Internet access has been spotty recently, so this is my first chance to say it in the Offside Penya.

Bill, I’ll correct that by saying that Eto’o absolutely came through for us. Wow. He went something like a month without getting a goal and frustrating the hell out of cules. And, when we needed him the most… when the pressure was greater than at any other time… Samu came through for us. For the second time. For that I love him. There, I said it.

Eto’o absolutely changed the game with that. He wasn’t the MOTM by any means, though, but he definitely changed it like no one else would. Iniesta set him up great, but only a striker like Samu converts that opportunity (getting past Vidic and beating Van der Sar). And going up 1-0 in under ten minutes against the run of play–by ManU players’ own admissions–was what won the game for us.

For the faults that we can put on Stone-foot Samuel, he has given his all for Barcelona. Barca has 3 European titles. Eto’o scored the game-changing goal in 2 of those finals. He equalized against Arsenal, and he popped Manchester United’s confidence last Wednesday.

Did you know that Yaya has another brother who is also a footballer? Not Kolo, another called Ibrahim. He is a striker and plays in Al-Ittihad (Syria)!! How about having a second Toure in the squad??

Bill, Eto’o deserves praise for that goal, what a game-changer and he did it with basic service. Intimidating pace, clever quick cut in, and robust finish, reminded me why I always felt this guy is capable of match saving and game-opening feats. Sure the rest of the game for him was nothing special (or horrible either), but that wins him a lot points alone.

bill, there was much praise in the review thread. We all acknowledge what Eto’o did with the control and the move. He also showed up Vidic, who has a problem with quick, strong strikers.

Also, note that in a press conference yesterday, Guardiola said that he wants a bigger squad, and some different players for next season, cognizant of the fact that there will be Super Cup (v. Shakhtar), Spanish Super Cup (v. probably Bilbao….when a team does the double, the Copa runner-up slots in), not to mention ACN.

I like that Guardiola recognizes that we need to get better, bigger and stronger. You’d better believe that Iniesta will be on the same strenghtening program that Messi was on this past off-season, with an eye toward reducing his injuries and improving his long-term durability. He takes a lot of hard fouls.

Looks like it will be a busy summer for us.

Now that I’ve seen the game without being absolutely drunk, eto’o and valdes gave us the champions league.
The first minutes by manchester were incredible, they almost ate us alive… good luck iniesta made his tipical divine run in the 9th minute and good luck samu is not henry (samu actually knows how to shoot to the 1st post, the close one) WHAT A GOAL… WHAT A GOAL!!!! MY GOD!! AFTER THAT I COULD ONLY HUG EVERY STANGER IN THE BAR… I WAS SO EXCITED I DIDN’T SEE THE REST OF THE GAME. WHAT A GOAL, THE SECOND ONE WASN’T BAD ALSO :D

After samu’s goal, all was easy for barcelona. I personally think that if Ferguson had put Berbatov and Tevez instead of Park and Giggs, they could have scored an early goal and the game would have completely different.

thank you samu you’re the best!! plus… did you see how he defended the whole game?? he is a legend for sure, no matter how stoney his touch is :D

let’s see at the fifa wolrd player list and how many of our players are in the top ten. We world is at our feet!!

Is having 3 YAYAs in the team a bad idea? What if they gang up on one of the opposing players? Would UEFA fine us?? Would the opposing team even show up knowing that there’s a YAYA in their half, in the mid, and on hour half?

mku: I certainly agree. The kappa jerseys are my favorite.

I think part of the new ruling about foreign players will include something about how many Yayas you’re allowed in a single league, much less on one team.

But Henry has scored at the near post this season, mku. Why rip on the man? All he did was play hurt to give us a real threat that United had to honor on that side of the pitch, right? Even now, after the treble, do we have to rip on the guy?
