Bojan Krkic: Goal Poacher

By: Isaiah | May 14th, 2007

In these harsh days for FC Barcelona, there is a rising star and his name is Bojan Krkic. He is now somewhat of a Spanish hero after scoring the only goal in the U-17 European Championship final against England. You can see the goal here. Take that, Spanish international bogeys!

I’ll chip in $200 if the Rapids can make an audacious bid for Bojan. Is there a way to bet on him being World Footballer of the Year in 2011?

Clint, if he is playing for the Rapids in 2011 I don’t think your bet will be realized.

Bob has a solid point. Good old Bob: no faith in America.

Having a goal-poacher in the wings is a nice luxury. But truth is, we desperately need a couple of defenders and at least one midfield general. A Keano-wannabe, essentially. Do we have any of those coming through the youth ranks? If not, let’s hope Rijkaard does some intelligent shopping in the summer. I hear a rumor that Patrick Veira is unhappy at Juventus. He’s a couple of years too long in the tooth, but may have a couple of good seasons left in him.

Rupert: Not sure I would ever want Vieira at Barcelona. Maybe 5 years ago, yes, but not now. Barcelona needs to bring in some young guns, not older veterans. That system works for Milan, but that’s pretty much a one-of-a-kind system that functions only because the team is so tight-knit, which isn’t exactly Barcelona’s deal right now.

I’m compiling a summer shopping list which I’ll post in a few weeks (after all, there is much season left and the rumors are only just beginning earnest) which will deal with all of these questions.

I agrfee that Viera is hardly in his prime. I only mentioned him because I’d heard he was looking for a change. At best, he has one great season and one less-than-great season left in those long legs. But I think he’s exactly the type of midfielder we’re lacking at the moment. Viera from five years ago would be fantastic. Look forward tto your shopping list.
