Madrid is Evil

By: Isaiah | May 24th, 2007

Now, I know that no true cule can believe anything other than what is stated in the title of this post, but there are always those impartial doubters, those who just don’t know better. Now, this latest “proof” does come from Barcelona-based tabloid Sport, but at this point, why not accept anything that’s said about the merengues and run with it?

The story is this: Madrid have offered a “bonus” to Real Zaragoza if they draw or win with Sevilla at the weekend (the better the result, the larger the bonus). That’s hardly news these days as maletines (suitcases full of money sent to opponents of rivals to give them incentive to win) are making all the headlines as they always do towards the end of a tight race. What is news, however, is the fact that Madrid have, supposedly, promised to double this bonus if they themselves win the league title. Guess who Zaragoza plays the week after Sevilla? Madrid, of course.

So there you have it. Bonuses all around! Now, it’s probably all bunk like it always is (and a quick check of the other sports outlets reveals no corroboration), but whatever, you might as well read about it here as anywhere else.

Wow, this happens in Spain, too? I thought only Italians engaged in this sort of awesome/horrible bribing! Clearly I need to pay more attention to La Liga.

As you said yourself, consider the source.

Also, the goalkeeper for Getafe said that while he would be happy to take a little money off of Real Madrid, he and the rest of the team hadn’t been offered anything for this weekend’s match. And wouldn’t it make more sense to pay off the team playing your closest and most hated rival than the one playing Sevilla?

The thing is if Zaragoza beat Sevilla they will be playing Madrid with less pressure (especially if Madrid’s victory would promise them more money)

I’m hoping whatever happens Sevilla wins that game, since if Zaragoza’s 5th place is being threatened, they are more likely to put in a game against Madrid.
