Barcelona – Villarreal, the (Championship) Liveblog
By: Isaiah | May 10th, 2009Not that I’m counting my chickens before they hatch, but here’s the Championship Liveblog!
If your name is JeffP or Corrine, you can log in and run the liveblog if you so choose. Yay! It’s all set up. I am going to Nevada Smiths to enjoy the sights and sounds of screaming Barcelona fans with inNYC. If you’re around, stop by. I’ll be wearing (barring some strange act of striptease) a white Spanish national team jersey and a red Barcelona hat. Woohoo.

i was preparing for the league celebration today but suddenly Llorente destroyed it at the very last minute strike. Our team look very very very tired and too playful especially the back line.
Messi as usual, sleepwalking again. Run as pass the damn ball damn it!! At this point I realy really miss Henry.
And by the way, Pep already rehearse our back line next week where Abidal and Alves will not be playing. Both of them will be suspended next week. I really hope that we can celebrate 2 Cups next week.

Don’t think it was the ref. Like Chelsea, we had chances that went by unpunished. Eto’o missed a bunch. That prick!

This time Pep’s strategy didn’t work out. I bet he wanted to finish this game off as soon as possible and rest some players for the Copa.
What do you think about the Copa now, since many players of our best line-up looked really tired today. I hope Pep decides to rest them and let Hleb, Krkic, Caceres, Pinto etc. start the match on Wednesday and if needed, bring on some heavy weapons later. But please don’t use a similar line-up like today, I fear that would be the worst possibility. Let’s win the Copa with a sort of b-team, afterwards La Liga with a mixed team and then focus on the CL final!

Regardless of all my remarks about Pep. If its true that Iniesta is injured and pep (again after Henry case) didn’t make the normal-amateur precaution substitution of pulling him out instead of substituting Eto’o or Messi (substituted after the injury), then I …hm…I…I WILL JUST SHUT UP!!!!!!!!

Really? Iniesta hurt himself? I didnt notice anything in the game, he was moving fine. Actually he was one of the most active players in the closing minutes, unless he pulled something walking off the pitch. I hope it isnt serious, we have enough injuries/suspensions as it is. We really need him.

@Hillal, it was during the second half, but I didnt think it was that serious. And honestly, I still dont think it is.

Yeah i thought it was weird when i read he was injured. Hopefully it was just a minor knock. As long as he is back in time for the CL final.

Okay, I will pray for Henry and Iniesta now. Because without them, I don’t think we have any chance against ManUtd (and without Abidal, Alves, Marquez and Milito who are out anyway).
By the way, Atletico Madrid, what an absolutely crazy team. 0-2 down at half time, one man down against in-shape Espanyol, and winning 3-2 within the very last minute. Forlan now 27 goals, luckily Eto’o scored today (should have scored twice though).

Show of hands, who’s getting religion over the last week?
I just fit a weeks worth of clothes, two laptops, 30 digital video tapes and a screwdriver kit into a 19 x 13 carry-on bag. I’m off to work, and happy not to think about who’s injured for a week. Let’s beat Athletic and Mallorca, shall we?

**with a beer buzz. The packing. And if thats what it takes for Athletic and Mallorca, then I’m all for it.

Think anyone would notice if we swapped Forlan and Eto’o? They are very similar players but they currently have opposite forms, it’s amazing.

So sad… Abidal and Iniesta will both miss the Copa del Rey final. Sure it might be the smallest (of the big) trophies we’re playing for this year, but we HAVE to win it!
More information tomorrow (Monday) on Iniesta’s injury…

Pep says he fears the worst in terms of Iniesta missing the CL final. Says more tests today, will know more tomorrow. Recurrence of his thigh injury from earlier in the season:

Off topic, but quote of the day from Guus Hiddink after Wenger accused Drogba of diving:
“When you win you should win with modesty, and when you lose you should try not to pick over things.”

Not picking over things when you lose! What a concept!

Apparently google translates muscle as rectum..
Iniesta suffered a ‘previous fracture of the rectum’ according to google.. making it sound all the worse..
