Ok, to be clear: Mallorca has to score THREE goals in the next ten minutes–whilst a man down–to beat us.

    There he goes again, Hleb…

another poor performance, best thing for both Barca and him is to leave next summer. I don’t think he will get any better here.

    UAI, don’t blame Messi.
He looks up and plays great passes quite often, compare him to a certain Cristiano “I am the best, the 2nd-best and the 3rd-best in the world” Ronaldo. He could need that advice, but it doesn’t match his cocky character anyway ^^

Well another mediocre performance but we are through so i guess it might help with the confidence. Cant say i am overly ecstatic though, we had to bring on Messi and Xavi who both needed to be rested today. Our defence is quite comical at times and at it extremely worrying. If we think we are going to win the CL with defending like this we better think again.

We will have a tough game at the weekend as well against a side that trounced Sevilla 3-0 tonight and then Lyon a few days later.

you also cant balme messi because when he was running it was often hleb who he had open. i would rather he kept the ball than gave it to that black hole on the field

Messi had both Hleb and Yaya open and had two defenders in front of him.. yet I too would have gone with individual play. I saw him raise his head and look at Hleb..he quickly turned his head the other way, saw Yaya, thought about it, but decided to confront the defenders on his own anyway.

If it was Eto’o, Bojan, or Henry, yeah he most likely would have passed the ball.

Busi plays some awesome defense, but his offience (especially his passing today…) is just downright hleb-like (hlebian? hlebesque? hlebtastic/craptastic)

Can Busquets ever not fall over when the ball is around him…or at least put something on his ankles so he can stop rolling around for a minutes grabbing one EVERY TIME!

Well, if I were Pep I would pull VV and go with Pinto from now on. Pinto oozes confidence and made an incredible save. Horrible game by Barca, they better pick it up or they are going to get annihilated by EE and OL.

Wow. I missed those Messi super sub performances. Two yellows provoked including a second yellow that resulted in a red that evened out the game and IMO was the turning point (arguably along with Pinto’s penalty save). He and Pinto are Men OTM in my book.

If there was something I liked it was that guys like Yaya, Busi, Keita, Pique, and Messi were actually putting in a good work rate to try to recover the ball. That was one of the most significant factors in our recent slump. Maybe its just me but I actually liked Pique a lot this game. Alves went from shaky to good when Marquez came back in. Iniesta looks in form already (except stamina wise of course). Hleb was downright Hleb-ish *sigh*. Even when Messi the Human Emergency Pull Alarm came in and Mallorca went down to 10 men also and we started to play a lot better, Hleb was invisible.

Busi NEEDS to clamp down on his flash. He was trying out a hesitation back heel pass/dribble that he apparently wanted to trademark which worked well once but towards the end of the game almost cost us a goal as Arango was let loose and fouled in the edge of the area resulting in their last dangerous free kick. Totally unnecessary. We forget that Busi is only 20 and still has a LOT of maturing to do. He can start by watching guys like the Yaya, Senna, Lass (as much as it pains me to say it), and Mascherano go about their business and keep his passes simple but effective when playing deep. Xavi does what he does after over 10 years in the first year. Busi can’t expect to reach that level so quickly. He has to play it a bit safer and the dribbles and creativity will come.

BTW Did anybody else see Pinto messing with the PK taker’s head? He said “shoot this way” and actually dived the way he pointed to. The PK taker apparently was annoyed by this and tried a dead center shot to try to humiliate Pinto but ended up being the humiliated one. He also had a sick save against either Webó or Keita (the other one).

haha yeah that was too genius by Pinto. The kicker had a smirk on his face, thinking he had Pinto fooled but he got owned in the end. Pinto is more aggressive compared to Valdes too.

Yeah Pinto was pretty damn good and he did well to go after the shot that hit the net. I doubt there are any keepers that can save that. I think Valdes would have been left standing and wondering wtf had just happened.

Who knows, maybe Valdes is not better than Pinto. Especially when it comes to high-pressure games.

    motm: PINTO

seriously, bench valdes and let pinto give him a lesson. that penalty save was the undoubted turning point of the game. like rayray said, pinto oozes confidence and that is what we need there. VV has no confidence. I somehow always feel better when pinto is in there. he may not be catalan but he makes me feel better. i know this is just my opimion and no one else agrees with me but i would take pinto any day over VV at the moment

The match was interesting. Interestng because when seen the line up I thought ” where is the game management, creativity and possesion going to come from? Inesta a not ready for 90 min, nor to take the entire game on his shoulders. Not to mention he was not in the midfield. So when I saw 3 DM’s I thought ” great, why not?”. So it’s no suprise Hleb had the stunk, that Bojan barely touched the ball and why only Iniesta was a source of hope (untill messi came in). There was 3 midfielders to steal the ball but none to maintain possesion, none to set the tempo , no one for Alves to combine with, no one to make the dagger pass. So I won’t complain about the “bad” performance. I did see some positive things, our zeal to win the ball back ASAP has come back. Too bad no me was there to retain possesion. Anytime we have low percentages of possesion ( 50-65) we will suffer. I know, funny how we consider 50-65 low :-)

IMO Caceres was doing good until e showed he was a NOOB. He is a good player and I no time flat he will stop doing stupid things. It is not lack of skill just lack of experience.

BTW Barça’s woes aren’t over. But we will win La Liga and we will go through to 1/4 finals. We are actually having our bad times during good part of the season, when the losses are bad but over all uncosequentual. Is that a word? :-(

Review is up. I will say, however, that people are being harsh on Hleb. Sure he wasn’t that good today, but others were a LOT worse (Busquets, Keita….helloooo!).

Kxevin, Busquest’s Offense may have been worse than Hleb’s, but he can still break attack downs decently…
