Barcelona in the USA: Will You Be There? [EDITED]
By: Isaiah | July 23rd, 2009Dates edited to reflect local time rather than previously listed Spanish time
So our beloved blaugrana is going to be in Los Estados Unidos de America for a little preseason tour.
Aug 21: vs LA Galaxy
Aug 65: vs Seattle Sounders
Aug 98: vs Chivas, in San Francisco (Candelstick Park, listed incorrectly, I think, as Monster Park on the FCB website)
Are you going to any of these games? If so, let us know in the comments if you’d like to meet up with anyone else from this board. Then take pictures and send them to me and I’ll post them. I personally am on the East Coast, so I won’t be able to make the games this year. Sad.

I will be at the Seattle game. I live here and this will be the highlight of my summer, for sure. Hopefully I will also be at the airport, at the hotel, in the shower…i understand that Barca have such a “pinya” that they lather each other up during showers. hahahha!

Good news about the name changing back to Candlestick. That always bugged me when I lived out there.

IHM, not in the Camp Nou, unfortunately, but I’ve been to 2 here in the states (both in the Meadowlands).

And thanks for the welcome. I’m from the midwest, but I lived in Barcelona for a short time. Didn’t know much about the sport at all before that, but I had a Swedish roommate who told me about the strategy, teams, players, rivalries, etc. Before I left I had to go down to the neighborhood bar for every game to watch with the locals in this out-of-the-way spot I lived in. This was the 2nd half of the 2003-2004 season, right after Davids signed and Ronaldinho was coming on, and they suddenly started winning every game. I’m a huge fan.

I watched 30 minutes of a MLS final once…it left me scarred.
…wait..wait…I watched most of a Chivas-Galexy game, but all I remember is the Chivas fans were gonzo.…I can’t barely watch EPL now thanks to Barca.
I’m thinking fashionalby late…show up at MLS half-timePosted from

IceMel Ill convince you if you convince me. I’d rather find out where they will be practicing earlier on and see if I can get a autograph.

OK the best reason I see to going early is to scope out seats and find out if I’m in the middle of a Chivas enclave, in which case I head out to the proshop and buy a Chivas jersey to wear underneath…(of course a Chivas fan probably knows not to show up untill the real game anyway.)
I like your idea…where do find such info?

if someone finds a training zone were we can score autographs….gotta let us know…
I would run up to Messi with Marker and Jersey in hand and say “compermiso, por casualidad sabra donde esta Andres?”
ok… I’m just kidding… Messi owns… But Iniesta is my fucking idol!!

Heh, you totally should Jason. I was thinking if I find them together I’d whip out a camera and ask Messi to take a picture of me and GhostFaceKillah.
And yeah, the tickets I had for the Chelsea/Inter match were not cheap. Tho strangely, I’m further back for the Barça match and those were more expensive. But next time I see them I hope its at the Camp Nou.

I’ll be at the LA game. Anyone else going and want to meet up for pre-game cocktail (we have a big crew)? My 2nd LA Barca game since the 2 I saw at the Nou when I lived off of Diagonal.

For those in Los Angeles: Barca is practicing the night before the Galaxy-Barca game. The practice is at 7pm at the Rose Bowl. Tickets to the practice have been given to Galaxy season ticket holders (at least, they claim it’s in the mail). I have no idea if they will open up the practice to any others, but it might be worth keeping an eye out.

If it’s like the practice in Chicago was, you’ll see the second practice of the day, rather than the real one. They do stretching, ball work and keep-away drills, then square off for a fun 11v11 in practice, that, when we saw them do it in Chicago, included some dazzling stuff from Henry and Krkic. It was great to watch, so those who have the chance to see the practice, shouldn’t miss it.
Weird thing was that the crowd was asked not to cheer, or disturb the players. But some of the things we were seeing were so good (particularly from Alves) that spontaneous applause and cheers broke out. At the end of the session, the players all waved and acknowledged the crowd. Awesome!
