Drenthe eating your face
By: Isaiah | December 8th, 2008Ever wonder what it would be like to have Royston Drenthe take a chunk out of your skull? Yeah, me too. But we could always just ask his teammates:

El Clásico is coming and I’m going all out this year, regardless of whether or not this particular Dutchman is playing.

It looks quite likely that Juande Ramos will be managing the Merengues in the Clasico.

eklavya, “Merengues” refers to Real Madrid’s players or fans, but most commonly, its players.
I’d say it’s the equivalent word to “cules” for Barcelona. Except in our case Cules can refer to Barca’s players or fans, but more commonly the fans.
other examples include Los Che (Valencia), the Yellow Submarine (Villareal), Los Colchoneros (Atleti).

to more closely understand what Merengue entails, lets look up some of its synonyms in the dictionary, you’ll see that alot of the entries do apply!
inferior (adj):
2. lower in place or position; closer to the bottom
3. of comparatively low grade; poor in quality
5. acting or performing in a way that is comparatively poor or mediocrenaive (adj):
3. having or marked by a simple, unaffectedly direct style reflecting little or no formal training or techniquePosted from

Well I think el classico just got 10 times more interesting. Apparently Juande Ramos is taking over. I hope its not one of those situations where a new manager=crazy form. Not worried though. They might end up playing well, but we are still playing better.

Hey Jason, I watched it 3 times in the cinemas too! Im a huge Batman geek. Then I illegally downloaded it. I figured that that $45 they got from me buying their tickets was enough for me to not feel guilty. And I’m going out to buy it tomorrow anyway. Phenomenal film. Heath Ledger’s death was a huge loss. He was pretty much the future of Australian films.

I agree. his perfromance was amazing. (Disapearing Pencil Trick will forever be one of my fav. scenes in cinema!) He clearly out-acted the whole cast. The only part i didnt like about the movie was Maggie Gyllenhal, cant stand her face.
Hey, you Aussies still have Hugh Jackman! Wolverine comes out May 1st i believe…
anyways, i think the new manager thing will hurt madrid for the clasico more than it will help. (i dont know if its actually possible for their chances to have gotten any worse, but we’ll see). The team will obviously get better under Ramos, but there will be an adjustment phase, and the Clasico will NOT be pretty, not for them anyways.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to put a weak personality like Ramos in front of that Madrid squad full of ego’s… But I’m not complaining.
Anyone knows if Robben will play on saturday? Cause there was talk about that second yellow being recalled or something.

Jason, in which dictionary did you look up the meaning and the synonims of “merengue”? A “merengue” is a kind of sickly cake made with beaten egg whites and, according to the Oxford Dict., it translates as “meringue” in English. Realissimo’s players and fans are called merengues because they are as white (and *full or air*, good one, Ursus) as those sickly cakes.

I already hated meringue even before I was a Barcelona fan. The real culé dna…

I think Jason looked up “merengue” in the Cule Faithful Dictionary.
So Schuster out, Juande Ramos in? Oh man, things just got way more interesting.

Pep, I’ve been following the Robin thing, but it seems nothing more than moaning by RM board. he was given the second yellow because of aggressive protesting on the ref. not because of the dangerous play, and decisions like these are very difficult to cancelled because are highly subjective to the ref. add to that i heard that the ref. wrought down in his match notes that Robin had sounded him some “impolite” words!! but again nothing more than rumors.
I agree with you on Ramos personality, but Calderon always looked for such kind of persons, to manipulate them easily, like the poor schuster. so why would you think Capello had been sacked after bringing back a seemingly impossible title?!
plus Ramos is a championship guy with 2 UEFA cups 1 Euro super cup “by winning against Barca 3-0!”, and one copa del rey. and obviously they look to the Classico as a championship as we all do, and every one can recall the humiliating home and away defeat of RM on the Spanish super cup by Ramos kids.
anyways he could do them no more harm!!Posted from

Capello was sacked because of the catenaccio he played, not really because of his personality, Waleed. It wasn’t as if he was doing a good job, everybody will agree we just gave that title away (same points, more goals scored, less goals against) with Madrid just playing extremely boring and winning most of their games undeservedly. Schuster was signed because they wanted more attractive football, but it even got worse. Capello at least had a plan to defend. Schuster had no plan to attack ànd no plan to defend.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire for Ramos.

well I see it another way, Pep. when Capello came in. RM was in miserable form, at that point no one thought they would even compete on the tile. yes, we handed them the title at the end but he built up the team that won the Title next season, and everyone was hailing schuster for this, while it was Capello’s work still having it’s effect. they definitely was playing boring footie, but they knew how to win, this season the team lost its momentum and it was schusters job to take a greater role, he failed, and I’m here not saying that the board didn’t have a major role in this failure.

But at least he’s back in Spain, right?

oh NO! i wanted to schuster to get sacked AFTER they had been humiliated by us, so that in the press and all they could say stuff like “barca’s glorious victory over arch rivals results as a sack for Schuster” or something like that, though i think this will be good for real madrid because i keep on thinking that i will be like us, after pep took over we became the best again…
Oh and jason thanks for the help on the Merengues.
