Vacation

By: Isaiah | June 4th, 2009

Well, folks, it’s summer and that means I am going on vacation. This time it’s to Tanzania and the Ngorogoro Crater (pictured above). I’ve never been there and I’m excited to see what there is to see, to take a break from work, the daily grind, and this city. I’ll be gone until late June, probably without any access at all to my email or to this site, so it’s up to Kevin to keep things moving along. I’m sure he’ll do a wonderful job.

Don’t forget to check out my End of the Season post as well as Kevin’s previous posts: Game of the Season and Goal of the Season.

Take care and have a good first month of transfers. Here’s hoping for Ribery and some defensive backups coming out of the cantera, as well as Gai Assulin, Abraham, and Thiago making the jump. And hell, VicSan too.

Yeah, but Zlatan would be a bigger improvement. It’s true that there is no player of his kind in our team, whereas Lionel Messi could be described as a Ribery playing on the left (at least they equal themselves quite a bit).

If there was a choice between Ribery and Ibra, as much as I like Ibra, I would have to take Riber. Not only can Ribery play on the left, but like Tito Villanova said yesteday, he can play on the right if Messi’s out,and he can play attacking mid. He is very versatile and dynamic.

Regarding Yaya and his transfer, I think he could actually leave. His agent said the offer they received from Barca “was not good for us” and they rejected it. Yaya has plenty of offers, I’m sure and apparently his agent is quick to let Txiki and everyone else know that. I don’t know why Yaya continues to get disrespected, pay the man like he should be payed. If Guardiola sold Yaya, I’m afraid I would bear some resentment towards him unfortunately.

But pep doesnt give out contracts. If anything it would be Txiki’s fault.

Did I read somewhere that Yaya will get a pay rise to 6 mil? Still not satisfactory then? I’d rather he not leave though.

    thanks for the compliment ramzi.

about the article on goal, the only two quotes there are from pep are:
“Ibrahimovic is a great player. Many players who come to Barcelona become stronger,” and “We will see what happens. Everything will resolve itself with time,” the rest, wich they make up, you can’t believe, but it does seem like Pep likes ibra a lot; so with that: in pep we trust!

fcbfan, I’m sure he didn’t get offered 6 mil. He wouldn’t have turned that down. I read that was supposedly what they wanted to offer, but theres no way his agent would be saying “the offer was not good for us” if it was 6 mil per year. They would take that and run.

Pep doesn’t give out contracts, but I’m sure he could give strong advice to Txiki. He is a manager that just won the treble, he can do things like that.

I just can judge for what I’ve seen from those two players, I don’t follow other leagues very much.

I have seen my teams (FCB and Spanish national team) against both ribery and ibra playing on their clubs and national teams and the difference was big. Judgind only for those games, ribery is a much better player, more dangerous and constant. He plays well in all zones of the field and has guts, speed, skill and vision. Ibra played as 9 and wasn’t as dangerous.

Plus, in what concerns to FCB world image, I keep on thinking about the fact that our players are not very “comercially oriented”, tall and handsome and all that. Messi , Iniesta , Xavi, Puyi, Alves … That’s what makes them so great, they are kinda ugly but play like angels. I think signing Scarface would be definitive. He has got a story to tell like messi or iniesta. It’s a silly thing but the “we are one” stuff would be nicer with Ribery, not with Ibra. I don’t like Ibra’s personality at all for what I’ve seen, and I love Ribery’s.

Jnice thanks. Hope it’s not too late to give him a pay rise and convince him to stay cauze the team wouldn’t be the same without Yaya. I hope it’s some sort of ploy to get a better pay and not seriosly wanting to leave. Can’t fault him if he does leave though, he’s won everything in Spain. At least Busquets got to learn from the best!

and if he goes to Arsenal, can we swap for Cesc?

and Jnice thanks for the link to the cl torrent :)

Ibra’s agent is just as arrogant as his client. He can stay in Inter for all I care. Let the Madrids and Chelss pay 89m.

    from goal:

“However, our doors are open to other clubs aside from Barca.”

The agent went on to describe the requisites a team interested in signing ‘Ibra’ needs to have for the player.

“If he decides to change teams it’s necessary that clubs interested have a first-rate project from a sporting and economic point of view,” he continued.

“Not just one of the two aspects is sufficient. So far no such club has come forward with an offer.

“Chelsea? I don’t think he is one of [Carlo] Ancelotti’s favorite players.”

Raiola then made an announcement: “I will not make any other declarations on Ibrahimovic’s future. I will only talk after Inter find an agreement with
    another team.”

Mast, you may not be ‘old’ in footballing years, but your analysis of the Eto’o Ibrahimovic debate is spot on. Nothing against Ibrahimovic, in fact, I love the guys talent. Who remembers his move while playing for ajax when he faked and cut through 4 players inside the box, playing them like a cheap banjo before he scored? Amazing.

I was a manchester united fan way back in the 90’s but I started watching barcelona because Ronaldinho was a favorite of mine. But I started noticing something…Ronaldinho did his fancy moves, deco was there with his, barcelona had play makers all over the pitch, but there was always one constant. Eto’o was there to finish the moves. Nothing fancy. No tricks. No holding the ball(we have the players for that already). No step overs. JUST BURY THE DAMN BALL! Without him, Barcelona were a rich mans harlem globetrotters. Fancy passes, fancy moves, few goals and few wins.

I have seen some AC MILAN games this season, granted, Ronaldinho is not the same like he used to be, but he still sends some tantalizing passes to his forwards that are not finished off, and Ronaldinho is labelled ineffective. Put Eto’o there to finish them off, and people will say, Ronaldinho is back! In the past years, People claimed that Eto’o was only good because Ronaldinho & Deco made him so, now everyone is saying messi Iniesta & Xavi are giving him tap ins. Next year, people will say Obi Mikel and Ballack are amazing because of Eto’os goals for chelsea.

This season, after a particularly bad outing, Eto’o said,”I was not clever out there, I made things complicated when I should have kept it simple” That alone made me respect the guy even more. He knows what his role is and it is there for all to see time and time again. When he doesn’t have the space or positioning that is required he sends the ball back to the playmakers iniesta/xavi/messi and runs to position. His burst of speed behind defenders makes it easier to pass to him. His best quality? One/two quick moves and he is one on one with the goalkeeper. He did that against Man U, and he did that against Chelsea.

Ibrahimovic? Very good forward, but not a real No.9. He will make an excelent attacking midfielder/winger. But not a 9. If you guys watched inter milan games this season, you will realize 1.Adriano was more threatening as a No.9 2. Ibrahimovic holds on to the ball too long trying something fancy like CR7 3. He does not defend 4. Everyone is looking for him on the pitch 5. He never runs to create openings for his teammates or provide an outlet, he simply moves somewhere and waits for teammates to find him.

I know it’s hard to believe Iniesta is my favorite barcelona player because i’m defending Eto’o soo much, but Iniesta goes down, we lose 2 games and draw another, and everyone agrees iniesta is crucial. Eto’o goes down for half a season two seasons in a row, and we win nothing. Granted, many things went wrong over that time, especially last season but coincidence? I think not.

WARNING: beware of the Henry/Hleb/Gudjohnsen/Larsson syndrome! We get excited about this spectacular and supremely talented attackers with grace coming to Barcelona but pretty soon realize in our system they are nothing but support strikers or bench warmers. Most hold on to the ball too long, lack intelligent positioning and movement sense and end up making us salivate for more attackers to come.
Eto’opologist(who stole my idea) I like the Eto’o video. I like watching his goals, especially the ones where he leaves goalie’s either A)rooted on the ground watching the ball go in B) Falling flat on their backs C) finding themselves protecting their own face/head/body instead of the goal! LOVE IT!

What happens to all the great strikers in our youth teams (many of them Big and strong Ibrahimovich style)if we sign Ibra? This can lead to departures like Dani Pacheco

and for those of you salivating over Ibrahimovic’s goals, I would put these eto’o goals up against him any day of the week!
Goal number 11 and 1, can Ibra do that? Keep Eto’o and bulk up other positions in the team I say!

I also agree iniesta is the greatest but FCB needs a guy like eto’o in the team… he is one of a kind for sure. best nine I have seen even though I like to play nice. it’s just that he has that african style of playing I had never seen. 36 goals this reason and he didn’t throw all penalties, probably because he would miss them. He combines very well with passing machines lke xavi or iniesta, he runs like no one else and he tends to score :D

but the renovations, contracts and refusal rumours are there.
