Yaya: Bigger Than You

By: Isaiah | December 10th, 2008

There are only a few things that are constants in the universe: gravity, the speed of light, fear of Yaya.

    Larm, you are a genius.

Justin, good point. Domesticated cats are just lions that once saw Yaya and shrank to hide themselves.

“So complete, so absolute, was Barça’s victory that Ronaldinho was actually given a standing ovation by the Bernabeu after his second goal, a tribute only the great Diego Maradona had ever been granted previously as a Barcelona player at the Real stadium, although, on this occasion, this was also designed as a stinging rebuke for their own team.” I think all big and small YAYAs, lions and cats engoyed this show more.

Universal constant: Fear of Yaya may be true for Horses, Cats, and Men…but fear is not what is stirring in the female of the species! Hence that roundhouse kick knocked that apple into Eve’s hands!!! She had no choice really, the kick had too much power!

and bayern-lyon match was really exciting, bayern were up 3-0 at half time because of ribery who kept going up the left where cris was absent because of the suspension, but the second you could see only lyon lyon and lyon, benzema did a nice litle flick dribbled the goalie and scrored, 3-2 (govou also scored some time before this one) and benzema had quite a few chances, so did fred, but the goalie made a nice corner save and so the scored stayed like that.

Tough, tough CL draw. Watch us get Chelsea again, probably the second best team in Europe now. The derby continues (Colts Patriots anyone?)…when I saw the final group-stage standings, the first thing I thought was, man, we almost would’ve been better off finishing second in the group. Then I found out that we weren’t eligible to play Villareal, Real, and Atletico. Phew…okay I’m satisfied with finishing top of the group-

I guess we deserve it seeing as we really did have awesome luck in drawing, in all honesty, probably the easiest sides we could’ve drawn for the group stages.

    Yaya never sleeps. He waits.

The first RM goal was a howler by the Zenit keeper and the other 2 were due to one of their CB’s (both times the left one I think) not holding the line and keeping Robben and Raul on sides. Their defense was hardly tested although Sergio Ramos did look better after Juande apparently instructed him to focus on defense and forget his trademark forward runs. They still looked shaky the few times Zenit put something together.

The whole team pressured the ball a lot better and seemed more motivated that in the past few games but I wouldn’t read too much into a victory over an unmotivated, Arshavin-less (he had a fever and was invisible in the first half and subbed at half time), and out of form (the Russian league ended last month) Zenit team

By the by, I’ll cover the CL draw next week, after what this next game we have is. Can’t quite remember who is next or when it is.

Do we even have a match in the league this week? Marca isn’t so sure either.

eklavya how can you consider their goals good.
Yes, I admit Robben’s was really good, but the first was a really bad mistake from the GK and the second was a mistake by the defender and we are used to seeing stuff like that from Xavi…even better passes too. (Xavi is the best)

Also Robben isn’t playing in El Classico because he is a retard, getting a red before the most important match of the season.

According to Sport, we’ve already got 10 of our starting 11 named, with Gudjohnsen being tipped to be the 11th:

Valdés, Alves, Puyol, Márquez, Touré Yaya, Xavi, Messi y Eto’o

That is, by the way, the exact lineup I called in an interview with OleOle’s Madrid man, Adam. The easiest one to call and I finally get it right! YES!

I’ll post a link to that interview as soon as I see it (the site is blocked here at work for some dumb reason).

Sport sure had the line-up totally wrong last weekend… Although it looks like Guardiola is getting his team together with only one doubt in midfield and maybe up front (if Iniesta returns).

Sport also mentions Abidal as the probable left fullback and seeing as how Hleb has missed practice with a fever and played 90 mnutes against Shakhtar, Henry on the left up front is logical.

Hector, you’re right about Abidal. I actually thought he and Henry were in that list I posted. I should learn how to read.

Valdés, Alves, Puyol, Márquez, Abidal, Touré, Xavi, Messi, Henry, Eto’o + one other (probably Guddy)

Perfect lineup IMO. Also i def think Guddy should start. I know a lot of people dont like him and he may not be as fast or as technically gifted as some of our other players. However he is a very hard worker, his positioning is excellent, he is able to provide that killer pass and he is more likely to grab a goal (compared to Keita/Busquets). I was getting a bit nervous after watching Real yesterday but now looking at this lineup I cannot imagine us not getting a win here.

I have a feeling this is going to be Messi’s game. He has been relatively quiet the last few games and I think he will show us why come Saturday.

As for the CL draw…..bring on Chelsea!! I want us to take down as many EPL teams as we can this season. After we beat Chelsea i want Man utd or Liverpool.

I agree with Hilal about Guddy. I can’t believe I just wrote that. Guddy deserves to start!?!? But it’s true. Busquets is also a good call, but he played 90 minutes on Tuesday in a rough game, so perhaps put him on the bench and let our Icelandic Monument…um…monumentize someone.

Thirded. You’re spot on regarding both Guddy and Busquets, Isaiah.

I think Guddy has grown by leaps and bounds since he got to Barca. Guardiola has been good to him. He no longer tries to do to much with the ball and just focuses on pressuring the opponent and moving into the right spaces to play off of Xavi. He learned that if you want to get the ball in this team you have to read the spaces and properly position yourself. His size and his work rate is as good as Keita’s but he’s also more technical and is just as good offensively despite Keita’s apparent insistence that he truly is a forward trapped in a midfielder’s body.

You know what’s really scary for la Liga though? Wait until Iniesta comes back and slots into his old spot. Ouch. Batman (Xavi) is going to get his Robin back.

Completely agree with you guys about Guddy. I can’t believe I’m saying this either, but el classico needs more monument. And to be perfectly honest, (I NEVER thought I’d say this either) I’m really glad we kept him.
