Supercup Part III (The European Edition) Preview

By: Iggy | August 27th, 2009

So what with all the hubbub about the Champions Leagues groups being decided (we’re in group F with Inter, Dynamo Kiev and Rubin Kazan), lets not let this game go unnoticed. Shakhtar is a strong team, albeit not as strong ever since we officially got their Caveman Chygnasty. This is the team that we had to play to qualify for the Champions League last season and they put up a good fight. All things considered we can beat them if we take it seriously, so lets not have another embarrassment like the one against Sevilla after the 2006 CL championship. That one still stings.

Starting XI (predicted):
——–Valdes——–
Alves–ElCapitan–Piquenbauer–Abidal
–Xavi–Busi2.0–BigYa–
-Henry–Ibracadabra–Messi-

Look for Pedro, Bojan, and Keita to make appearances for Ibra, Henry, and Busquets. Henry just turned 32 and he’s going to have to have a solid replacement either late this season or next season no matter how well he’s playing now. Bojan is still good, he just needs his confidence back and Guardiola seems to understand that (remember he’s only 19). Keita will go in because Guardiola likes him…oh and he does the whole support role freakishly well too.

I have no inkling of how Shakhtar will play but if the last time I saw them is any indication, then Puyol and Pique better be extra mean (I would say the same about BigYa, but he does that anyway) because the Orange and Blacks will come out swinging.

My Prediction: 2-1 Victory. Goals by: (unpronounceable Ukranian name), Messi, and (AT LAST!!!) Ibracadabra. We’ll get a come from behind victory that confirms our team’s character.

Hasta la Victoria! Barça!!

This is a team that we struggled with last year. They beat us once and should of beat us twice if it wasnt for messi. I think tomorrow we break out of our 1st half funk and get an early goal. If we do that then we get 2 of 6

They’re not going to score on us…2-0, final score. Ibra will get his first goal to break the dead lock.

I have a serious concern about the Champions League draw. Could it have been rigged by Butragueño? Barcelona got the hardest rival among the possibilities (INTER, Juventus, Oporto, Lyon, Rangers, CSKA Moscow, AZ Alkmaar). While Real Madrid, having to face one of the first seeds, will face Milan, which right now is probably the easiest (MILAN, Manchester, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Bayern)

The video shows how could it have been easily done:
