A trophy! A trophy!
By: Isaiah | October 25th, 2007I know I’ve been lax with the posting, but here’s something to dispel the gloom and doom of losing and drawing in consecutive matches (a gross overreaction, of course, but whatever, I’ve discussed that enough in the past you probably already know my opinion on the matter): Barcelona have a trophy!

That’s right, bitches, we’re Spanish Super Cup Champions! …of roller hockey.
In footballing news, Toure and Zambrotta should be ready for this weekend’s game against Almeria, which is great news. I doubt either will start, but at least one should make an appearance during the second half. Instead of having a day off after returning from Scotland, they trained away in Barcelona since they didn’t get to make the trip across the Channel. Samuel Eto’o has left the gym and is running around a bit, though he has yet to touch a ball. It’s a good sign that he’s running around and stuff. Maybe the injuries woes are ending and we’ll be back to full strength in the defense in just another week or so.
These players shouldn’t be pushed to make a full return quite yet because despite the rigorous schedule (Sunday, Wednesday, Sunday games), the opponents are Almeria (9th), Valladolid (19th), and Real Betis (17th), so resiting the urge to over-exert Toure and Zambrotta shouldn’t be too hard. However, getting them back to full fitness and re-incorporating them into the squad should be a priority so it’s possible that they will start. Both EMD and Sport are reporting that Toure wants to play against Almeria and he is more likely to get the start, it would seem. Barca’s official page has an interview with him where he states “I’m really keen to play as soon as possible. I think it wouldn’t be bad to play this Sunday. I think that this Thursday or Friday I’ll get the green light from the doctor to play,” but what’s troubling is that he says “it wouldn’t be bad to play this Sunday” instead of “I am ready to play this Sunday.” Assuming what he said “Jugar el domingo no estaría mal” was said in Spanish and not translated from French, then it’s akin to saying “What could happen…?” which is not the sort of thing I want to be thinking about if he’s out on the field. Perhaps I’m over-analyzing…

Hahaha! Awesome Isaiah, I love how ‘roller hockey’ is played on old school ‘quad’ skates and with a stick that is the illegitimate love child of a field hockey stick and a normal hockey stick.
When I lived in Sevilla I saw an ad for a ‘roller hockey team’ I went to the tryouts, overjoyed that I could play a little puck in Spain. When I saw the quad skates and the knee pads, I was a bit shocked I have to say.

Yeah, I think it was the skates that made me post that. Totally sweet.

I can’t wait for Yaya to be back in the team. When he is in the team the entire midfield can move a further 10-15metres up the pitch. Then when Iniesta and Xavi or Deco get the ball they can do more damage and quicker. Having Ronnie drop deep slows Barca’s play an awful lot. I much rather when he can make the final pass. He tries meaningless one-twos 40 yards from goal, getting nowhere. Let Iniesta, Xavi or Deco do the one-twos and Ronnie do the killer pass. Yaya will help all of that

You’re probably right, John. I don’t think our roller hockey team is all that good, so we’ll probably miss out on the league title, but that’s okay cause we’ll make up for it with the La Liga title.

Was it our roller hockey team or handball team who won their Champions League in the year the footballers won the double?
Good omens, see.
