Even more evidence that we are at least looking at him:
“He will play for Barcelona if Barcelona want him to play for them. But they are not the only club who are interested in him”. “Interested” isn’t good enough, but it’s a start. We’d have to be crazy not to get him. He is exactly the kind of signing we want: one that would die for the team.On goal.com’s top ten transfers of he summer, we are the only club with two- Caceres at number 8 and Keita at number 5.
Not too sure about Berbatov. He has a pretty big ego, which is something that we really shouldn’t be looking to bring in. I’m with you Ciaran. Anything under 20 million is worth it, but I doubt he would be happy on the bench.

For any Berbatov fans…

I particularly like the penalty v Chelsea at around 8:25.
His technique is beautiful, and he does score a lot of goals in this clip from crosses.Posted from

The Arshavin thing is torturing me. How could we possibly ignore him!

Slightly off topic, but everyone: If you haven’t seen the Germany/Turkey semi-final match, I’m sure it will be rebroadcast somewhere. You need to see it. What a match. No outcomes here, but wow!
I’d take Adebayor over Berbatov.
Oh, the Brazilian physios were saying that Dani Alves is like, crazy fit all the time. Now being the most fit Brazilian player isn’t that staggering a feat, some might say. But there you are.

I was reading the same thing as you, Kxevin. The way they said it though, it seems as if he is REALLY fit. And looking back on it, considering the amount he attacks and does those huge sprints up the wing, he never seems like he really needs to be subbed.
Arshavin’s price tag is 20 million, according to his agent. And Berbatov would be MORE???!!! Give Arshavin over Berbatov any day of the week. Arshavin has (so it seems)next to no ego, and seems to love the club alot. AND he has the perfect skills for our system. If we don’t get him, I will personally go to Spain and kill Txiki.

Jake, if you need help, let me know.

I hope arshavin has a good game today, that might convince txiki. He’s no 2 game wonder, i saw him play for zenit in the UEFA cup, and he helped make mince meat of bayern munich and rangers.Posted from

I think that if zenit can beat bayern, and russia can beat holland, and the same player pretty much wins both games, despite playing for the “lower” team, I think that player really needs to be bought.
I have a strange feeling that Russia will knock off Spain. With Hiddink and Arshavin, they can do anything. Hiddink is a tactical mastermind, and Arshavin can pull off pretty much anything that the coach tells him to. But if they don’t win, then like JC said, I hope Arshavin does well, maybe scoring a goal or two, or at least setting a few chances up. No doubt that he will do well, though. If Russia do anything good, we can count on Arshavin being in the centre of it.
So just to clarify things a bit, and I know I sound stupid for asking, but if we end up using a 4-3-1-2, is Messi the 1? Or does he form part of the 2, and just drift out wide? Henry can play the 1 or part of the 2, so what will he be?

yeah Go arshavin!!!!
on the topic, the away jersey looks like the arsenal jersey, the one’s they wore, when we beat their sorry asses in the final…

Apparently we still need to close three or four more signings. Thanks to pep over at his blog for this:
“We still have to close three or four transfers, but that number can still change depending on the players who will leave the club.”
So who are they going to be? Arshavin, I hope. If we get Arshavin, we don’t get Hleb. Is that how things are going? (Not that I’m complaining.)

A couple more things: according to El Mundo Deportivo, Barça, Zenit, and Arshavin agreed to a €15million deal almost two months ago and have kept it hush-hush and will only announce it after Euro2008 has finished.
While most of you know that I don’t support the signing of lots of players during the offseason, Andrei Sergeyevich Arshavin is the real deal, even if he is already 27, so I fully support his Barça-loving self arriving at the Camp Nou.
I also believe mildly in conspiracy theories, so I believe that there will be a small spate of signings right after the Euros are over and right before the July 6 vote of no confidence. If Arshavin and Dani Alves are officially signed, expect Laporta to survive handily…

I am all for Arshavin… as I see it there are many players who will be willing to play for Barca if we provide them with the money (read Ronnie, Deco etc)…. But at this point (and after all that has happened over the last few seasons with a team that is not motivated) if a player is wanting to play for Barca and is such a close fit to our system and is willing to let the transfer money go down a little bit for pulling on our jersey, then I am all for it…I am sure he will have more motivation than the likes of Deco etc…even at a little less quality..sure

Hmmmm. Goal.com says that we have “officially approached” Zenit for Arshavin. Too funny.
Keita is delighted, and he’s one of our two signings on Goal.com’s Top 10 signings of the summer. Alves would have made it three, but he wasn’t made official (and still hasn’t been). Soon, is my guess, definitely before the vote. I’m with Isaiah on the “chicken in every pot” politics thing. Oh, and he looks really good in the home shirt.
In other news, the buzz is that Scolari wants R10, and doesn’t think he’s washed up. But he also thinks that 15 million Pounds is a real-world value for him. Good luck with that.
We’re purportedly STILL interested in Adebayor, even though AC Milan has come in with a 35 million Euro bid. Holy crap! If we outbid them, we are officially insane. I love Adebayor as a striker, but NOT for 40 million. Yes wages are going crazy. But come on. Dude. You’re killing me.
Marseille are rumored to be willing to enter the Eto’o sweepstakes, but not at the 40 million Euros that we’re asking for him. Duh! He’d be the most expensive player in Ligue Un histoire, mon dieu!
The Cameroonian is planning talks with Guardiola when he returns from international duty. Can’t believe they haven’t happened already, frankly, unless these talks are a second round, with something of a “Please, baby please, baby baby baby please” kind of tone to them. And NOT on Guardiola’s part.
Looky here….who wouldn’t want to be part of a side as we are assembling for next season? In addition to the existing stalwarts, we have made the back line rock-solid, and turned the midfield into Gibraltar and ensured that plenty of pretty services will be flowing into the box with one Mr. Alves. Now Arshavin? Yikes!
Marquez says he’s extremely motivated after being given life from Guardiola. He wants to return to his best. God love him for the ambition, but right now I don’t see a place in the starting XI for him, frankly. He’s best either in central defense or holding mid. Well, I just don’t see him displacing Puyol, Caceres or Yaya. Will he be happy as a sub? Time will tell.
Speaking of Arshavin, there is a most excellent report here:
http://fcbtransfers.blogspot.com/2008/06/formal-offer-for-arshavin.html
If we get him for 15 million Euros, it makes sense, and if he realizes the potential that we all think he has, we will be a staggering, verging-on-unstoppable side next season.
Of course, I thought that last season.

I think keeping Marquez is the right move. With the buying of Pique and Caceres, our defense has thankfully become a lot younger but we need some experience. I think he will be mostly used as a holding midfielder sub, I think he will get enough playing time to be happy and maybe a season of playing less frequently will help his injury problems, which has been the cause of his erratic form.
If Ronaldinho is sold (more like when at this point, I know a lot of you would love to see a miracle comeback but at this point I think it’s for the best that we all move on) he will also be the only original Laporta signing left in the squad, making him a true veteran.

interview with txiki on the FCB website:
“We are looking at our alternatives to cover three positions: a ‘number 9,’ a winger, and an attacking mid.”
He says that Adebayor is interesting, but “it is not our only option.”
“The quality of Arshavin is beyond debate, he is having great Euro 2008.” though Txiki has not wanted to dwell on this theme, before the transcendant match played tonight between Spain and Russia in Vienna.
He also said that if Ronnie is with Barca when the Olympic Games roll around, he wants to make sure he is with Barca to face the August 14 champs league qualifier.

Okay. Wrench in the works. Eto’o AND Ronaldinho stay. What happens then, aside from none of the kids getting a spot in the side? Starting XI? As I see it:
Valdes, Puyol, Alves, Caceres, Abidal, Yaya, Keita, Xavi, Messi, Henry, Iniesta (with the quick hook, baited with Arshavin, ready).
Eto’o or Ronaldinho are the first subs, Marquez first sub if we have to hold a lead.
Now, I know….Eto’o and Ronaldinho off the bench? Craziness! The two most expensive subs in the world.
So let’s hear it, folks.

Obviously I would put Eto’o on for Henry, but that’s how I roll. And I think Arshavin would start over Keita, too.

Pep said he is imagining keita on the left.
and all this talk about getting a number 9, makes me think Pep doesnt see henry in the middle. he’s back on the left like last season.

The home jersey is ok but I liked the one from last season much more. Arshavin would be a great signing. I think we should have Henry in the middle.

One really good thing about getting so many high quality players is that everyone will be competing to get into the starting line-up. Keita and Yaya will be playing as best they can to start, Henry and Eto’o will be competing, Ronaldinho Arshavin and Iniesta will be playing at their best and the defence will be scrambling for a starting line-up.
