Camp Nou-er: Norman Foster and the Catalan Wembley?
By: Isaiah | September 19th, 2007FC Barcelona’s official site has announced that Norman Foster, chief architect behind the remodeling of Wembley, will lead the way in the remodeling of the Camp Nou. Not that stadiums are his thing, though. It’s quite the opposite, really. Here is a list of what he’s done so far, as well as a brief bio piece.
While Wembley will be used as a reference, it will not be used for aesthetic reference, whatever that means. They’re going to redo the outside look of the stadium and also increase capacity by 10,000 seats. This would give it a total capacity of 108,772, which is really freaking big. Also, the official proposals won’t be done until late 2008 at the earliest, so we all have time to make a pilgrimage to the old version.
The expected cost is €250million, so it’s not Wembley-esque in that sense, at least (Wembley cost €1.14billion).
