I Demand More (Money For) Yaya
By: Isaiah | January 12th, 2009
Dear Joan Laporta and the rest of the FCB Board of Directors,
It has come to our collective attention — we being myself, Kevin, and all the others who frequent this here Barça Offside establishment for their intoxicating beverages of Barça talk — that Yaya Toure, my personal mancrush, is currently the lowest paid player in the squad. This is, of course, according to an article in Sport (Spanish), so perhaps it’s not quite true, or perhaps “squad” doesn’t include Victor Sanchez and Pedro, but if it is true, then I hereby demand that Yaya Toure, Giant and Tormentor of Midfielders, be given an extension and a hefty raise.
As a club we are in a solid financial position — augmented by my massive donation of the cost of a membership, of course — so we should be paying our best players salaries relative to their contributions to our success. And, because he is His Yayatude, because he is the best DM in the world right now, I believe that our Ivorian Juggernaut should be gettin’ paid. Like crazy cartoon money.
Sincerely,
Isaiah and the rest of the Yaya ManCrush Club

i didnt realize yaya played with rivaldo at olympiakos in 2005/6. the barca website stated that yaya was one of the most “effusive” in greeting rivaldo when he visited the barca training today. of course, rivaldo also played at barca with xavi and puyol, with sylvinho on the national team, and, of course, with pep guardiola for four years also at Barca.

Xavi’s girlfriend next to him as well as his parents on the private plane to Zurich. His girlfriend looks pretty good.

Uh-oh…Brandao a few times zones closer to me… and a few leagues closer to Barca…nightmare time

Um….this just in….of course it’s from Brazil.
A Gremio physio has discovered that Viagra improves the high-altitude performances of footy players (on the pitch). I would make further comments, but it’s just too easy.

No, andrew M. They’re the oh-so-popular velour corduroy.
Xavi’s other looks precisely like the kind of woman a grounded player would date. No tattooed models, no piercings, just a nice person (as much as can be gleaned from a picture, that is). This in emphatically unlike a certain C. Ronaldo.

so, cristiano ronaldo said “I believe that in 2009, Barça will be a real force and they will be the favourites to win La Liga and the Champions League,”
and we know that that jackass doesnt hide his true feelings. Modest? no, but at least he understands football enough to acknowledge that ManU aint got anything on us this year.
still dont like him
On Yaya. give him a raise immediately! We cant afford to lose him. He is for us what Essien has been for chelsea the last couple of years. they are very similar, and the best DMs in the world i.m.o.

in reference to my own post, above, i think many of chelsea’s problems this year have been caused by havingto play without essien.
and as we saw on sunday, when Yaya isnt on the field, our team isnt firing on all cylinders, and it takes 3-4 AMAZING individual performances from our stars to make up for it.

Marca said this….

we already knew.
Messi won the online voting right?

yup, essien is great, a player i truly fear, and no doubt yaya is in the same class. different players but similar…

Im pretty sure that at this point i have absolutely no fear of any team in the world. how to beat Madrid, Valencia, and those Prem teams in CL isn’t important anymore. Our true opponents and are Over-condifence, egos, fatigue, potential injuries, etc. Those are the only things keeping us from EVERY trophy this season. But im pretty confident Pep spends countless hours in his office comming up with strategies to overcome those things, and not worrying too much about who is the next unfortunate team who we move straight through.
Man it’s been forever since Champion’s League. i cant wait. And as good as the Osasuna match was, im in some desperate need for more Barca, im glad I have the Copa 2morrow. Does GolTV show it live?

Live as day, Jason. Check goltv.tv for your time zone. I predict a slightly more negative match from us, what with 3 away goals. If my away goal math is correct, they would have to win 2-0 to go to a shootout, or some such. Ouch. Math. My brain hurts. Where’s Isaiah?

yup it is live, 1 pm pacific 4 pm eastern (US).

Kevin- Somebody correct me if I’m wrong but I believe that if they win 2-0 the aggregate would be 3-3 but we would have 3 away goals vs their 2 thus giving us the victory. The ONLY way to have a shootout is if they somehow win by exactly 3-1 (3-0 and At Madrid wins). After that point, if they score four or more they win any aggregate tie on away goals.
This assumes that its the same CL system.
Oh yeah, pay Yaya!!!!! etc., etc., etc.

I thought the Copa was redrawn for the quarters, but I’m not sure.

Kxevin, of would have to be 3-1 after double overtime. To go to shoot outs.

Yes, an 0-2 loss means Barcelona goes to the next round on 3-3 with more away goals (3 to 2). I cover this in the PREVIEW PREVIEW PREVIEW PREVIEW
