Injury News: Puyol Dislocates His Elbow Against Benfica
By: Ade C. | October 2nd, 2012Barça obtained a nice 0-2 win at Benfica, but the real news of the evening was the unfortunate injury suffered by Carles Puyol as he tried to take one of his usual corner kicks.
Here's Puyol this morning, all smiles. Don't know about you, but I feel better already. (via @Carles5Puyol)
In spite of the truly frightening images (not for the faint of heart!), it seems that it’s not as bad as we first feared. Official reports from the club say Puyol ‘merely’ dislocated his left elbow and is on his way to a hospital in Lisbon as we write, in order to have more tests done.
We don’t know how lengthy the recovery will be yet. We will update this post when we have more news.
ETA (03-10-12): Puyol spent the night in hospital in Barcelona and had more tests done this morning. The dislocation was confirmed; according to the club’s website, our Capità will follow a ‘conservative treatment’ (ie, no surgery) and will be out for around 8 weeks.
Even if he continues with the trend of cutting the expected recovery times in half, Puyol definitely won’t be back for the Clásico, the next few Liga matches, or the next few CL matches.
Here’s looking at you, Piqué…
