Juliano Belletti to Chelsea

Juliano Belletti has transfered to Chelski for 5.5m in a somewhat surprising move. I didn’t really see that coming, despite the fact that I read all the of the trash rumor papers I can get my hands on while I’m at work. While I understand leaving the Camp Nou in search of more playing time and perhaps a bit more appreciation, I don’t exactly get the move to Stamford Bridge simply because that means even less playing time, I imagine. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t see Belletti as anything more than role player there too.

I imagine that this opens up a desire to bring in some more players, but we’ll have to see who. Boumsong is a supposition by the Barcelona press, but whether or not that pans out is up for debate. I like a slimmed down roster, but only if it can stay healthy, which in this world of 500 match seasons seems a little doubtful. With Real Madrid bringing in Gabriel Heinze and Arjen Robben today (meaning Drenthe is left without a position) there is even stiffer competition out there. Perhaps the B squad will provide us with the proper defensive reinforcements, but that seems somewhat unlikely. But fear not, loyal culés, the Catalan flagship is not one of those sinking ships you hear so much about from the English press when they’re describing Manchester United’s imperfect start to the season. After all, Man City is currently the world-beater and that’s just as ridiculous as saying ManU are done.

Regardless, it’s a shame to lose Belletti as I actually liked him quite a bit. So here’s to him:

Maicon, good call, Ciaran. You are forgiven, somewhat, for the "CRonaldo incident" a couple of posts ago. Now I know Inter won't give up Maicon for anything less than Ronaldinho or something retarded like that, so we shouldn't ever consider him a real target (he's being groomed as the successor of Zanetti, who is like 50 or something). Zambrotta isn't that old, so we shouldn't have to get a success immediately, but how cool would it be to have Dani Alves? I really like that guy (because I'm human, apparently), but no one's going to get him this year and I don't think Barcelona will be willing to fork over the required cash next year either. Alves is signed through 2012, after all.

Hopefully we can just promote someone from the youth ranks, but that may be asking a bit much of them to suddenly step in and take over. Like Nolan said, I don't want Oleguer to be the only backup for Zambrotta, but if he only has to play limited minutes, it wouldn't be too bad. The only issue is that everyone is so injury-prone (I think that goes for every team on the face of the planet) that the timing of those injuries is more important than the injuries themselves, with a few exceptions.

Whenever my players get injured in FIFA games, I just swap in someone else and make them better by playing them in a good squad and doing specific training with them during the week, thus giving them bonuses...When I was champion of the world with Xerez CD, my best player was some dude I'd never heard of and can't remember who went form like a 70 or something on the rating scale to an 89 just because I could score at will against shitty Segunda defenses. For some reason doesn't really work out in real life so much. Huh.

If it was earlier in the summer we'd probably get Carlos Diogo of Zaragoza but now it could probably end up being Angel Lopez of relegated Celta Vigo. I'd love to get Maicon from Inter though. Funny that he keeps Dani Alves out of the Brazil team. Good going forward and fantastic defender. Like Abidal, but better going forward

Belletti has a very obvious place in this clubs history, as a player he is overwhelmingly average, I'm still kind of surprised by this move though. Realistically Zambrotta will miss games due to injuries and suspensions, I don't really want Oleguer as the only backup.

Bobby, Alves is a rightback. We already have Zambrotta. Besides, Sevilla want 40 million euros. Enough said.

Is the Belletti thing official yet? This is very odd - as you said, he seemed the most useful of the 'expendables'. Besides, having played against him in that infamous 4-2 game at Stamford Bridge, you'd think Chelsea would know that while decent going forward, he can't defend.

Still, I'll miss him.

Alves plays on the wrong side of the pitch -- we already have Abidal there. The Brazilian is better, but we've already spent the money on the Frenchman, alas.

agreed, i liked him, but he never dazzled me (and let's face it, the goal against arsenal was nutmeg luck)...too bad this didn't happen a few weeks ago, maybe drenthe would still be on the block...but since i used to live in seville, i can't help but hope maybe we can snatch alves. he's a solid defender and good in attack, as well as a likeable guy. and of course a brasiliero

Belleti sucks, but never stops impressing me.

-I was impressed when someone decided to buy him from Sao Paulo.

-I was impressed when Barcelona decided to buy him from Villareal.

- I was impressed he was World Champs with Brazil as he belonged to the 02 squad.

-I was impressed he gave a Champions League to Barcelona.

- And now I'm impressed Chelsea bought him.

The guy sucks, but you got to appreciate his luck.
