Mallorca – Barca La Liga Match Preview AKA Fontas VS Batra Match!

Once friends, now enemies!

Once friends, now enemies

With an already AOWL defense, playing a match on a this beautiful island is another disaster waiting to be happen, unless of course, somehow, the team can prove us wrong.

Since the beginning of the season we are suffering heart attacks and near-death encounters with last minute winning goals and jaw dropping defense. Still we are setting at the top of the league with a 3 points cushion over Atletico Madrid and 8 points away from Madrid, whilst also topping our champions league group; not bad!

Mallorca welcome us after our UCL 2-1 loss to Celtic. Basically every football pundit out there was pointed out towards Barca’s lack of plan B and wayward defense. Will yes, Barca don’t have a plan B, they don’t need one. And for defenders, we think they already know that. Well, we hope they, we pray to God every day they do! But we all remember what happened last time we tried a Plan B, hello Mr. Ibrahimovic. We have midgets and squirrels in our squad as well as tall giants who are useless with their heads, what do you have for an excuse to be top of the league and champions league group?

Seriously though, I for one thought the loss to Celtic was alright, not ideal but ok. Had we luck on our side, a sniper taking Forster out, and not playing Xavi in DM, we could have won. Personally I think the outcome from such a loss can play to our advantage as the season progresses. Barca usually drop points in La Liga or Champions League this time around each season as far as I remember; Ruben Kazan and Sevilla come to mind now. And the team usually spurns back to winning ways immediately afterwards in style hitting form just before the winter break.

Mallorca are heading into this match in a terrible shape. They are on a losing streak in the league that stretches to 5 matches. They also have around 7 players out injured from the first 11, Giovani Dos Santos becoming the latest player to suffer an injury.

So for Mallorca, they might be embarrassing themselves for a Barca backlash, especially that Barca won 9 of their 11 away matches against Mallorca in all competitions. But this time around season they will be slightly confident of getting a good result, they have Fontas!

Fontas will come up against his old mates after being loaned out to Mallorca earlier in the season to get much needed regular football after his serious knee injury. Personally, I think this move is 2 seasons late for the player once hailed the next Pique. I think everyone sees his potential but it never quite worked out for him in the first team; both with his injury and with Pep favoring Busquests and Maschernao in CB while he was fit.

This might be a chance for him to show Tito what he is missing, unless Bartra comes up on top. While every cule was going bonkers every time Song played in CB, Bartra was glued to the bench. Tito finally took the decision to trust the young lad in a couple of matches. Although he looked understandably shaky at some points during the minutes he featured, Bartra was fairly solid throughout. It was a welcoming change to see an actual defender with a sense of defensive position. Obviously he still has some time to go to finally claim first team spot, but with more experience and guidance, I think he can be the person in contention to be Barca’s next central defender, not Fontas or Muniesia who has terrible luck with injuries.

So what do we expect from the match? Well we hope Messi can dedicate a goal and a win to baby Thiago, that would be nice. What we won’t be seeing however is the Dos Santos brothers killing each other on the pitch. Giovani is out injured for Mallorca and Jonathon is, well Jonathon! JDS has a strange tendency to disappear on the bench as neither Pep nor Tito are able to find him during matches, weird!

What I expect to happen is both Fontas and Barta to keep up with Barca’s current tradition. Fontas will score from a corner kick, an own goal of course! Fontas will then force Bartra to score an own goal after out-jumping him and killer squirrel Alba from a corner. Barta will fail miserably in clearing the ball and will end up scoring a spectacular own goal. Messi will slap them both and then score 2 goals on the 89th and 90th minute of the match.

What else do you think will happen?

Mallorca 1 – 3 Barcelona!

Visca Barca!
