Mamelondi 1 - 2 Barcelona: Year-End Friendly

By: Isaiah | June 21st, 2007

Barcelona traveled to Pretoria South Africa to take on South African Premier Soccer League champions Mamelondi in a season-ending friendly. While it’s not the most glamorous of teams to play, it’s certainly nice that Barça traveled there to play and even started their best team. That last bit was probably a contractual requirement, of course, but it’s still nice to see.

The game started off badly enough for the blaugrana as they went down 1-0 within 2 minutes through a goal by Surprise Moriri (what a great name, especially considering the circumstances), but they pulled a page out of Real Madrid’s book and won it late thanks to 79th and 81st minute goals from Ezquerro and Marc Crossas, of all people. Both goals were created by Ronaldinho and apparently the second was just a stunning pass. Good to know he saved his best for when it didn’t matter…though another trophy has made it’s way the Camp Nou.

And now that the season is officially completely and totally over, it’s time for the rumors…Yay.
