giuly deserves to be playing in the big league like serie a.its the only league to have produced big names like zidane-juventus,ronaldo-inter,bergkamp-inter,del piero-juventus,george weah-ac milan,vialli-juventus & sampdoria,Rijkaard-ac milan, van basten-ac milan,bierhoff-ac milan,mijtovic-fiorentina,shevchenko-ac milan, roberto carlos-inter,van der sar-juve,zambrotta & thuram-juve,canavarro-juve.So why shouldnt Giuly be proud to be linked with stars like Totti and De rossi.Everyone wants to prove himself in serie a.today Kaka is playing best football that damaged manchester united. If you proper explanation email me at(kensichy@yahoo.com)and i will respond well.

How can people still think Valdes isn't a great keeper? He had one shockingly bad game against Liverpool this season, but he's saved us on many, many occasions and was one of our few players to perform almost every week this season. He has come a long way if you look at his growth over the past 3 seasons and is still young for a keeper. Yes there are better keepers out there but he's a Barca product and I wouldn't trade him Buffon if given the chance.

Del Horno?!!! Why the hell do we need another attack-minded defender? If we have money to spare, surely it's better spent on another central defender or midfield hardman?

Yeah, I like Valdes -- although he let us down at a critical point last season. I for one am delighted that rumors of Dida moving to Barcelona has proved unfounded.

But MERT worries me. Perhaps we should call it DREMT (to include Deco) or DIMERT (Iniesta)? With that much attacking flair in the team, something's gotta give. If one or two of them are injured, we'll be glad for the abundance. But if they're all fit and raring to play, I worry that the dessing room will be a very unpleasant place. And we saw the consequences of that last year ...

Valdes had a really good season in 06-07. I can only honestly think of one or two games where he made blunders, and how many 'keepers can you say that about? Sure, he used to be a bit hit and miss, but his reflexes are excellent and I like the fact that he comes out of the box when he has to.

I'm more concerned about the lack of quality backup. Jorquera's a nice guy, but he's really average as a keeper.

I don't know, Larmie J. Bartuah, about replacing Valdes. He's not actually bad. Sometimes he has his moments that make you say "?" in an audible fashion, but is he worse than Edwin van der Sar? I personally don't think so. With a solid defense in front of him, Valdes is more than capable. Hopefully another prospect comes along soon that we can get trained and make into a much better keeper, but buying someone a step above Valdes (Buffon, Casillas, etc) doesn't strike me as the best option. Anyone of that caliber would be too expensive to be worth it as they wouldn't put in much more effective games than Valdes, who had the second best goals allowed per game ratio in La Liga last year (second to Abbondanzieri, who, I believe, only got that distinction because he played in several fewer matches than Valdes).

The question is mainly in the defense, because no keeper on earth can square up to world class strikers one-on-one and come out with a save every time. If the defense allows opponents to freely meander the box with the ball at their feet, goals galore will be heaped upon that poor keeper, regardless of talent.

Management, thanks for the beautiful buying of players for the next season. The buying was very fine, but there is a problem with goalkeeper. Victor Valdes is our major problem when it comes to winnig. So I suggest as a fan to the management to buy someone better than Victor Valdes. He can still with us as a second choice. So please see reason to respond to my comment or suggestion. Long live FC Barca, long live the manager.

There is much to expound upon with the MERT situation, so I'm going to have to delay a post about that until next week, when there has been more movement on the transfer front (I'm talking about players leaving, not arriving). Obviously the presence or lack thereof of Motta, Edmilson, etc will be very important in considering who plays where and what tactical formations are necessary. If for some reason we do go after Drenthe and succeed in getting him away from Madrid (unlikely, but you never know), then that changes the complexion of the team quite a bit, in my opinion. So I'm going to hold off on the whole thought until I've had a chance to digest a couple of the latest developments.
