News Of The Day: Alex Song Presented As New Barça Player, Gamper Goes To Sampdoria

Bojan never looked so happy at the prospect of sitting on the bench.

Bojan never looked so happy at the prospect of sitting on the bench.

-This midday, in Barcelona, to the tune of Notorious B.I.G.’ Mo Money, Mo Problems (yes, yes, get the jokes out of your system now), Alex Song was presented as new Barcelona player. He said all the right things (best team in the world, will learn Catalan, it feels like a family, can play as a CB if the coach wants, blah, blah…) and expressed his wish to play against Real Madrid in the SuperCopa, which… no, not happening, unless Busquets develops leprosy between today and tomorrow, and perhaps not even then.

-Yesterday evening, Barça B (feat. Barça’s Super Subs and Villa) lost the Gamper Trophy to Sampdoria, 0-1, thanks to an early Soriano (no, not Jonathan) goal. It was an entertaining match, if your idea of entertainment is seeing puppies run around and then run into each other. Good performances by the likes of Sergi Roberto (chosen MotM), JDS, Planas and Bartra were not enough to salvage a result, especially as the front line consisted of Afellay trying desperately to impress someone, Deulofeu sulking in front of defenders twice his size, and Villa wishing Messi or Iniesta were around. But well, it was a friendly and a great chance to trot out the kids; at some point, the team was so young Ibi Afellay was wearing the captain’s armband, and near five minutes to the end, the team consisted of a handful of teenagers and Rosell’s pet hamster.

Now, we can start getting ready for the first of many Clásicos to come, the first leg of the Spanish Supercopa, to be played on Thursday!

Wow. We actually have something resembling a full bench now. It might not be necessary to raid Barca B every other week, even. It's a little strange.

  •  It's so strange that many Barça fans are requesting we send players out on loan (JDS/Afellay/Fontàs) so we can go back to being miserable...

Yeah. Personally, I'm looking forward to a season where both Iniesta and Busquets will likely be able to stay in the midfield.
