News Of The Day: Fontàs To Mallorca, Super Abidal In Recovery, And More…

''Maybe this time I'll make the bench!''

''Maybe this time I'll make the bench!''

-Because here at Can Barça we have such a massive amount of defenders who are fit, match-ready and available to play (why, there’s Mascherano… and Masche… and Javier too!), Barça have decided to allow Andreu Fontàs to go on loan to Mallorca for what remains of this season. A logical move, if you consider he hadn’t even made the bench in the last few matches under Tito; an illogical move, if you consider the barren state of Barça’s back-four right now. But there had to be something about this kid that really annoyed Tito, so now he’s off to greener pastures. Best of luck, Fonti! We’ll remember the time when we thought you’d be the next Piqué!

-Eric Abidal continues his recovery at the hands of Barça’s medical staff. It’s still unclear if he will return to play for Barça this season (though optimistic rumours point at December as a possible date), but what’s clear is that he’s getting much, much better. Under the jump, a video that won’t fail to make you smile! (or tear up, that too)

-The internationals have been good to remind Barça players that they are allowed -even encouraged- to shoot on goal and sometimes even score.

‘Killer Squirrel’ Jordi Alba and ‘Hat-trick’ Pedro got a nice 0-4 win for Spain against Belarus, with the occasional help from Xavi, Busquets, Iniesta, and a bunch of guys who don’t play for Barça:

Messi scored two, assisted one, and hit the crossbar once as Argentina steamrolled Uruguay:

Not so impressively, Alexis didn’t score (or do much) for Chile, and Alex Song’s Cameroon failed to qualify for the African Cup (Barça fans can now cheer quietly and then feel a little guilty). Everyone else is healthy (knock on wood RIGHT NOW!) and happy, and will trickle back to Barcelona during this week to prepare next weekend’s match against Deportivo La Coruña!

We’ll be here for that, but in the meanwhile, you should follow us on Twitter to get the latest Barça news as they happen.

Fontas was awwwwwful in the pre-season games ... he urgently needs minutes therefore thumbs up for his intelligent move.

JDS on the other hand seems hopeless, this guy will stay benched for ever.

Great news about King Abi and amazing performances by Pedro and Messi!

After that point, Masche should go as well, who needs defenders in modern football, right?
