News Of The Day: Goodbye Keita! Have a Keitastic time in China!

By: Ade C. | July 7th, 2012

Just as we were settling in with a glass of iced tea and a bowl of popcorn to watch the Transfer Window go past, we were stunned by the news that our dear Seydou Keita is leaving the club. He leaves on a free transfer because (between the African Cup and Pep’s non-existant rotations and a regretable lack of foresight by someone) he didn’t play enough matches last season to automatically renovate his contract, and apparently he’ll now sign for one of those Chinese clubs who are financing the retirements of so many football stars a little past their prime.

We bet he decided to leave when he saw the away kits for next season... who can blame him?

It’s sad news. You can argue that Keita wasn’t a crucial player, that he played little and mostly out of position (I personally never did like him much at DM), but he was a fantastic professional, always willing to give his all even after being benched for weeks, and a valuable, versatile player. Barça might have enough players to take Keita’s place, but they certainly don’t have one player who can adapt to so many positions so easily and seflessly.

In any case, he leaves with a list of trophies bigger than those of many clubs and hopefully a ton of good memories, so we’d just like to send Keita our best wishes for his future career and thank him for the excellent four years of work he’s put in for Barça.

He will be missed! I'd be surprised if the club is able to find a suitable replacement with the same skill and experience, without digging a bit too deep. When i Think Of Barca under Pep, i can't help but think of this guy. Solid buy, solid player, one hell of a solid jaw-line.

    All the best to him!
