Oh for the love of God, don’t buy Lampard
By: Isaiah | June 28th, 2007
According to the newspaper, El Pais, Barcelona are in discussions with Chelsea about prying Frank Lampard from them. £15million is the price El Pais quotes, or an exchange for Deco (who they might sell to InterMilan in order to finance the deal). What!? This better be some kind of freaking joke. I don’t want Lampard even if we do lose Deco. Honestly. Stop it. Get Chivu for less than Abidal and ignore Lampard. Wholesale changes are exactly what will sink this club into the murky depths of galactico-ism and we’re already partway there, so Laporta, you’re officially on notice.
Here is the story in Spanish that led me to look up the Times article they quoted.

Hasn’t this been rumored for years? Are Barca trying to become Real Madrid circa 2004?

Yeah, this has been around forever and I hope with all my soul that this is just a rumor. I thought Henry was an unnecessary buy but I can see him being very useful, Lampard on the other hand offers nothing to Spanish football and couldn’t replace Deco if Deco lost a leg.
The good news is that Marquez looked really good last night.

Yeah, everyone’s always supposed to be buying Lampard, including several of the big clubs in Italy. Don’t get too stressed, I’m sure he’ll stay at Chelsea until he’s entirely broken. THEN Real will buy him.

NOOOOOOOO. Ahem. Yeah, I agree with you entirely. And Nolan’s right, Lampard can’t replace Deco, at least not in Barca’s formation.
And good for Marquez. Looks like he’s not going anywhere next season.

Please, please, please don’t buy him. He’s our bitch.

It’s not that this is news to me, which it certainly isn’t, but it’s the first time I saw it listed in El Pais and I happened to be having a slow day at work…so, yeah…it got posted and I’m definitely fully behind what I wrote before, regardless of how trite and repetitious it is. (would that distinguish it from anything else I’ve ever written?)
