Great post.

There is the adendum too because as a Liverpool fan we have gone through about 10 “crises” and up till now 10 “recoveries” where we go from, apparently, fighting relegation to aiming for the title in a matter of two games or even one in the case of the Barca match. It’s silly but it’s also a lot like writes inside the beltway – they have to spill a certain amount of ink every day to stay relevant. Often newspapers and TV companies don’t pay for thoughtful analysis because thoughtful analysis would at times include phrases like “I don’t know” and “It’s not clear if there are real problems in the dressing room” but they need content and throwing words around makes for that even if it dulls the mind and leads us to places like this one where we can actually try and think things out a little.

Thanks, Cham. You’re right on about expectations in soccer, it’s a little ridiculous. And while we both support major clubs, it’s unfair to expect 100% success. That’s absurd and would make for boring fixtures anyway.

Fantastic post. It’s just the nature of top clubs in top leagues to falter a game or too, or just not be on it during a league cup game.

Aside from Roger Federer and his dominance of the tennis game right now, it would be absurd to expect Barca or Chelsea to win every match handedly; there is just so much competition in this Beautiful game. Even Barca is allowed to give up a goal and not have the critics chanting ‘demise of the Catalan’.
