Real Sociedad - Barcelona, Saturday 1pm: Deco, Belletti, and Márquez out
By: Isaiah | May 4th, 2007With just about 24 hours left before the game in San Sebastian, the roster is out, if not the actual lineup. Deco is the biggest injury, of course, but Rafael Márquez and Juliano Belletti join him on the sideline because of injuries. Santi Ezquerro is also out, though merely because Rijkaard has elected not to involved him. Ezquerro certainly seems destined to leave in the summer at this rate (I’ve heard nothing about it; if anyone else has, please leave a comment).
So, here are the players called up:
Keepers: Valdés and Jorquera
Defenders: Puyol, Thuram, Zambrotta, Oleguer, Sylvinho, and Gio
Midfielders: Edmílson, Motta, Xavi, Iniesta, Ronaldinho, Giuly, and Messi
Forwards: Eto’o, Saviola, and Gudjohnsen
Note that, as has been widely reported for the last few days, Edmílson and Motta are back after recovering from injuries. That should shore up the defense or at least provide defensive options off the bench should Rijkaard decide they aren’t ready for full games yet (that does seem the smarter idea at this stage).
We need this win, boys, so let’s just get it done.
I’ll be back on Sunday/Monday with a review of the game and a discussion of the ramifications of the Real Madrid - Sevilla outcome. Have a good weekend and enjoy all the games.

Sorry everyone, but the game is actually at 2pm. Soccernet’s scoreboard was apparently wrong until today when it decided to update to 2pm.
I’ve got plans, so I won’t get to see anything more than the first half…
