does anyone think there’s a chance of us picking up Neves after the Olympics? will he want to come, will his price be too high, etc.? as i’ve said before, he’s basically a Cristiano Ronaldo Lite™, but i’ll take that over an empty spot that has to be filled by players converted from other positions.

I think Eto’o’s ego was getting a bit out of hand, but Pep seems to have put him in his place.

We are lacking a bit of depth on the wings and in the backs. But what about Pedro for the wings? He looked brilliant in pre-season, and he can only get better. Obviously don’t line him up against Madrid, but against lower teams he would fit in fine. A young, cheap right back would be great too. At least we have a great midfield.

And I was pretty happy with Silva’s comments about Spain being superior to England. Glad to see him stay loyal to his country. I guess he’s not the sort to think “Hey, if you’re rich, you MUST be good”.

Caceres has played rt back in the preseason (and played pretty well IMHO). He may not be the offensive threat that Alves is but he’s not a defensive sieve either.

Glad to hear Eto’o is staying. Here’s hoping there’s no drama or “no trophies, no stay” talk from him. Fingers crossed.

Ciaran’s spot on. I can’t believe we aren’t going to sign someone else before the window shuts. Somebody cheap to add some depth. Four years ago, El Capitan could double as right back. Not any longer. Caceres has the versatility and the pace. But we then lose the offensive threat that Alves brings to the table.

Malouda’s pretty cheap for that left back option, IMHO. He could be had for about 15 million. Great link-up play with Henry. Malouda says he wants to stay with Chelsea and fight for his place, but I have to believe that he wouldn’t leap at the chance to play for us. But his name hasn’t even come up, except that one time in something floated by his agent.

Right back is difficult. Man, I wish we could have kept Zambrotta. But he wanted first-team football.

There’s a lot of players that ‘can’ play in other positions but would it not be better to have some specialists around? We have the spine of the team correct but left and right wing are kinda empty. Iniesta ‘can’ play both wings, as ‘can’ Hleb… and Henry… and Bojan, but where do you want them? Granted Hleb may have played wide for Arsenal and Iniesta does for the national team. Henry played there last season and Bojan plays right wing in Messi’s absence.
It would be nice if we had another winger, and not just for the left wing. Someone like Palacio could play both wings if needed
