Ronaldinho Comes to America

By: Isaiah | March 26th, 2007

It’s the international break and so I too took a break from the action. I’m back now and here’s a little roundup of all that happened with Barcelona’s international team players:

Spain: Iniesta and Xavi (Xabi Alonso 60′) started in Spain’s 2-1 win over Denmark. The win puts Spain into 4th place in the group F standings, just one point behind Denmark, but still 6 points from leaders Sweden. This cartoon published in Sport sums it up: “Every day Spain’s dream of qualifying for the EuroCup gets closer…as does losing in the quarters like God wills.”

France
: Lillian Thuram started and played all 90 minutes for France in their 1-0 win over Lithuania.

The Netherlands: Gio started and played all 90 minutes for the Dutch in their disappointing 0-0 home draw against Romania.

In Friendlies:

Brasil: Ronaldinho scored twice and got an assist as Brasil thumped Chile 4-0 in Sweden. El Gaucho was also profiled in a New York Times article today (Monday).

Mexico
: Rafa Marquez started in Mexico’s 2-1 win over Paraguay.

Saviola has again announced that Barcelona haven’t offered him a new contract, which disturbs me as I think we should hold onto El Conejo, but he really doesn’t seem to be a part of Rijkaard’s plans and if that’s the case, he should go somewhere he can thrive. Hopefully he doesn’t come back to haunt Barca in some future competition.

I probably missed some players, but I hope not. There will be more games later this week and I’ll post about them after they happen.

You got my hopes up! I thought he really was coming to MLS to play with Becks. We’ll take him. Send him over :)
