Slow news day: Boumsong to Barça?

By: Isaiah | August 22nd, 2007

According to Sport, Jean-Alain Boumsong, currently a defender for Juventus, is being considered as a potential last-minute transfer. Besides the fact that Boumsong isn’t, in my opinion, up to the standards of FCB, is there any reason to assume Gabi Milito and Rafa Marquez wouldn’t be a better pairing than Boumsong and anyone else? Thuram has an ankle injury that could keep him out of a couple of matches (probably just the Santander and Inter games, but you never know) and Puyol is out for a while yet (and won’t be back to full speed for a bit after that, one has to assume), but with the addition of Milito should be fine. Granted, he’s missing for the first match through suspension, but I think Oleguer can do a decent enough job as a stand in for one game that we’ll come out with all 3 points on Sunday. Do all of you out there in Blogolandia agree that Boumsong would be a wasted signing?

In other news, supposedly Santi Ezquerro is going to Athletic Bilbao. For real this time…maybe. Just get him out already.

Thiago Motta is threatening to just sit around and wait till January when he can leave for free if Barça doesn’t sell him right now. I think the team should get rid of him and pick up a little bit of cash (say €3-4m), though I understand keeping him around as a backup since Edmilson is out probably until the middle of next century. At which point he’ll be really old. But Motta doesn’t seem all that interested in being Toure’s backup, which is too bad because that’s exactly what he is. Should FCB keep him? I say no. Thoughts?

Rumours of Diego Milito coming to Madrid - might make for an interesting familial situation: Gabi steps aside so big brother can net one?

Did anyone read Berlusconi saying that every year he offers Barca a Kaka-Ronaldinho swap? I have faith in Ronnie but that does seem a tempting offer. Just wondering if we were to swap the two we could kill 2 birds with 1 stone (have a younger Brazilian playmaker and stop him joining Real).
Ronaldinho has been brilliant over the last few years and could well be the best player in the world this season after the summer break. But Kaka could replace both him and Deco in one and free up a space on the left, maybe for one Cristiano Ronaldo. Maybe I’m just dreaming, or verging on the edge of having too many stars but how nice would it be to have Kaka and Iniesta behind Ronaldo, Etoo and Messi?
    I honestly don’t know what I’d do

Oh God, Ciaran, CRonaldo? No way. Not in a million years. Besides the fact that he plays the same position as Messi (or at least plays there best), I dislike him. So on this blog, he will never be a Barcelona player!

As for Kaka, I prefer Ronnie because we already have Deco, though you’re point about replacing both is somewhat valid, I think it’s just that Kaka has received so much hype this year that we think he’s better than everyone else. Damn right he’s amazing, but better than Ronnie at what Ronnie does best? I personally don’t buy it. Better than Deco at what Deco does best? Maybe, but it’s a question mark. That he’s younger is certainly a bonus, but, of course, the swap will never happen so it’s not a big deal.

I see a news-flash saying Chelski have bought Beletti. I have to say I feel bad about this. For one thing, Beletti will always be in my personal pantheon of Barca gods because of THAT goal. For another, of all the players deemed superfluous to Barca’s needs this season (Badjohnsen, Motta, Maxi, Edmilson) I thought Beletti was someone who still had something to offer us. Oh well, such is modern football.

Isaiah, I didn’t mean for this summer, but in the next one or two it might be a possibility. Belletti to Chelsea is a surprise. I don’t really know why Barca would sell him if they don’t have a replacement lined up because if Zambrotta gets an injury it would look pretty thin. Maybe someone like Nelson(Benfica) would be a good attacking RightBack to play in the offensive role.
Thank you for the Champions League Juliano

We should take whatever we can get for Thiago and sell now. I can see his worth as a backup, but in his current stroppy state? No.

Don’t even get me started on Boumsong - what is Sport smoking? Thuram will be fit for the weekend anyway.

No argument with selling Belletti, nor with ridding ourselves of Ezquerro/Motta. I’d certainly prefer to see Giovani or Bojan playing in the odd Copa del Rey match than Ezquerro.

I’ve always hoped Motta could step up and take over as the regular holding midfielder but last season seemed to conclusively say he wasn’t going to do it, at least not for Barca. Perhaps Marquez will see more time in that role, or maybe we’ll see more of the three little men midfield.

Barca should sell Motta, he is not god enough to play first team football, after selling Belletti to Chelsea Barca only have Zambrotta on the right position, maybe Oleguer but he is a Barca B player for me :)) they keep him only because he is a catalan,.. i think barca should buy a defender and a someone for the right position,.. Dani Alves?? To expensive :)
