Spain vs USA comments thread, a.k.a. “No booze, no whores. What will happen?”
By: Kevin | June 24th, 2009So fresh off of what many consider to be their best performance ever, or at least under that dimwitted gimlet named Bradley, Team USA is facing off against the side whose name is already engraved on the Confederations Cup trophy, Spain.
But since Spain was expecting to make it through to their final, this being their invitational tournament and all, they didn’t celebrate with liquor and wenches.
Not that anybody is saying Egypt did. No, no. The journos are backtracking on that one.
Meanwhile, we have the first match of the semifinals, and it’s either going to be a humdinger, or a shellacking. I predict a shellacking, unless the US side stacks up two lines of five, joins hands in the box and sings “We shall neeeever yield!”
But even then Torres would probably get in behind them and score 42 goals.
Or not.
Anyhow, comment away.

i haven’t watched the match yet, so I’m still not convinced that the U.S. beat Spain 2-0.
I only know that they lost because i have my Grandma talking shit over txt messages…
On Sunday I was talking about how the U.S. needed 2 miracles to qualify, and somehow got them. And how they would get played right off the pitch by Spain.
My grandma mentioned that the U.S. could win, because, after all, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.
I obviously conceded that ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN, but still there was no way the United States would not get their ass kicked by Spain.
I explained to her that it would take 3 miracles for the U.S. to win.
1) Spain play a shitty game
2) all 11 U.S. players play the matches of their lives.
3) the U.S. still needs some luck. But i also added that even with those three, the U.S beating Spain WOULD (read: COULD) NOT HAPPEN.
Well… now i just seem like a jackass…
But the silver-lining!!! (yes… a silver lining, if you can believe it..) :
In my honest opinion, BETTER DROP THE BALL IN CONFEDERATIONS, THAN IN THE WORLD CUP.
the way i see it, every big team gets the wake up call that they are not unbeatable. And it is better that spain get the wake up call during confederations than in the world cup.
I’m sure Del Bosque whooped their ass verbally… so now they know that they can’t phone in a semi-final, no matter what the team.
anyways… i’ll watch the game tomorrow before the Brazil game.
… Sharapova got eliminated from Wimbeldon today… No Nadal, no Sharapova… All my hopes lie in the Hands of Ivanovic… (i’m bound to be disapointed)Posted from

Welcome back Isaiah, i was missing some Insanity, but in between Madrid single-handedly financing Transfer Season 09, and Spain bending over and letting the U.S. have their way, I’ve had my fill of Insanity.
Also, they said it couldn’t be done, but my friends and i watched all 6 Star Wars movies in one day. But we did. I think this took up any last shred of sanity i had.

*Ahem* So anyone thinks Spain > Barca? Barca has a waay better midfield domination and are better at exploiting every damn place in the field!
Spain were playing shit in the 1st half, better in the 2nd half.Really missing Iniesta….whatever USA deserved to win, they played better (and their two central defenders kick @$$ )Isaiah aka Safari Al : In this you can drink water straight from the tap too!

Interesting day in transferland:
Yaya’s agent said that the deal will be signed tomorrow and there are no problems with Barca.
Filipe will be signed up and made official on Monday.
David Villa has only one possible destination and should be finalized the first week of July for €40-45million.
Cesc betrayed us yet again by flirting with EE again. Again.Posted from

Funny thinking back to last summer we weren’t going to spend €20million on Arshavin and may pay €30million for a winger this summer.
If we had Arshavin instead of Hleb we would have no wing worries for next seasonPosted from

“Filipe will be signed up and made official on Monday.”
Where did you find that Ciaran?Marquez is going to sign a two year extension…?

Wouldn’t mind that.

If Fabregas really said that, then he doesn’t deserve to put on the Barca shirt. and what makes him think he will win trophies at Madrid? anyway, if this is true, Thiago Alcantara must be happy. he’ll get a chance to take over when Xavi retires. but it hurts to read such comments true or not from someone we raised.

Spain are probably the only team in the world who can play the ball like Barca do, but they dont work or press like we do and that is where i can see them suffer. Off the bacll they are nowhere near as good. Yesterday against the USA they reminded me a little of the 07/08 Barca, they seemed to think by turning up they would win it. I can undserstand why, because lets face it, the USA are not on the same level, but in football when teams get arrogant and lazy then these things happen. Maybe we should loan them Pep for a few weeks before the world cup, just to smack em around a bit

Just a thought, but in watching the Euros last year, I remember thinking that Torres was a bit of a donkey. He’s quick, has a bit of pace, but really, his touch is no more consistent or reliable than that of Eto’o. Good finisher, but facing defenders that have skill on the ball, he wasn’t amazing (aka in Spain). HIs goal tally skyrocketed when he played in a league where he didn’t have to worry so much about having good touch.

spain wasn’t playing well but if ramos hadn’t been ramos we could have scored and tried to win in the extra time. we were missing iniesta and silva… riera and cesc didn’t help xavi like he is used to and the united states played a good game, congratulations I guess
good luck this was only the confed cup but anyway loosing with the US 2-0 is tough. btw the ref was awful.

Torres has a limited touch but sometimes he surprises everyone with great plays, plus he is fast and strong has good shot… and he hates madrid
I think del bosque could have taken him out in last game and play with more midfielders and people on the sides but he has starter quality for sure. I personally like Villa more but… would you play with both 9’s, Torres and Villa? or just one of them?

Damn, the profanity in the lyrics in that Ribery video really don’t go with the clips of him doing the Islamic “prayer” (don’t know a more accurate word for it)
BTW, tribalfootball saying Villa already decided to sign for Barca… *sigh* transfer season is so much fun

Tajh Im all for replacing Eto with Villa cuz im a huge fan of his……but even if we replace Eto as reports suggest.
We’re left in the same place like before…(just with a forward wit a better 1st touch)Our main goal in this transfer window should really just be a LB(Filipe Luis), a back up bus breaking striker(unknown)and another midfielder(unknown)-I guess Pep and company has other plans, and i guess they really know wat the team really needs.Things us outsiders don’t see.
I believe instead of buying a left wing attacker Gai Assulin
should be given a chance…Both him and Bojan can provide excellent cover if its really needed.Don’t you find Gai kinda looks like Messi at the beginning of this video…..

He even runs like Messi to.Posted from
