The Morning After: Injury Report

By: Isaiah | April 10th, 2008

The injuries just keep right on coming, that’s for sure. Do we have a quota we have to fill or something? The biggest news is that Andres Iniesta has a slipped meniscus, which could require surgery either now or at the end of the season, depending on the severity of the injury…or slippage, rather. Regardless of surgical decisions, Iniesta will miss the Recre game on Saturday, which is a blow to our midfield. So much for our comments in the previous post about how reliable and uninjured both Iniesta and Xavi have been. The latter, of course, picked up a minor knock (right foot bruise) against Schalke, though he’ll probably be fit for Recre.

The others that are currently injured from yesterday’s game are Henry (achilles bruise) and Zambrotta (right calf bruise), but Abidal and Valdes both trained alone in the gym, away from the rest of the squad. No details were given about those injuries in the official site’s daily recap, though, so I suspect they’ll be good to go on Saturday. Marquez received some “knocks” to his foot today in training and will undergo tests to see if he’s fit to play again this season. Jeez. No mention whatsoever of Ronaldinho or Deco, which is worrying. Or maybe it’s not.

Do we need some good news now? Well how about this: Lionel Messi is training with the team again! YAY!!!! Here’s the official site’s story on that. So here’s to Messias coming back sooner than expected, 100% fit, and filling in for Iniesta. Ooooh baby do we need him to be at top form against ManU in a couple of weeks.

on the road in california here, lukcily found a place to watch the game yesterday in santa cruz. and now i read this about iniesta. in my opinion that basically cancels out messi’s return. its friggin horrible. the website is vague, not saying how long he’ll be out for, its killin me! please keep updated if you hear anything about iniesta’s injury.

No problem, ballbeav, I’ll be on it as soon as it comes out. Where in Santa Cruz did you watch the game? If it’s a bar, lemme know where it is so that I can add it to the list!

there will be too much pressure on Messi now…I hope they Camp Nou faithful, don’t turn against him too, if he does not perform.
Getafe have played an amazing match with 10 men, for 110 mins, but sadly they lost…

Kxevins right, IMO (from the previous post). We have an awesome team, too true, but many are leaving. So we need replacements. Modric and Nasri for Deco and Ronnie, Garay for Thuram, Alves for Zambrotta. Then we need wingers. We could even bring back Crosas for Iniesta and Xavi cover, and put Nasri on the wing. Diego would be good too, as a winger.

Bojan and Henry are out with (minor?) injuries. Will it really never end?

It’s clear the fitness of the players should be a major issue this summer: (1) we have too many injuries and (2) the squad does not seem in good physical shape. We desperately need an experienced physical coach!
