USA v Brazil match comments post, a.k.a. “Woodshed time?”
By: Kevin | June 18th, 2009I know, I know. The promises of fun are going unfulfilled. Blame that real life nonsense. But to keep everyone all giddy with commentary delight and stuff, we have a place to wax rhapsodic about the USA v Brazil Confederations Cup match.
Could we call this Beauty vs the Beast? Not the way Dunga has Brazil playing these days. Gack. You could almost see a match happening, if the US side showed any real footballing aptitude. But that ain’t gonna happen. Or will it? Will the Donovans, et al tap untold wells of footy grace and pull off a surprise? Or will those damned horns drive everyone to shut the match off and watch soap operas?
Let’s see.
P.S. It’s fun time tonight. I promise. So get those thinking caps ready.

Whats with the big deal surrounding the trumpets?
They are a very common fixture in soccer… at least anywhere I’ve watched any games (Mexico City, Toluca, San Diego, Los Angeles, Carson, Rose Bowl)
They sell them at soccer games… i have like 3 myself… Get rid of the trumpets, and we are one step closer to Tennis, where the referee will halt the game until everyone is silent. Thats just ridiculous…

the trumpets are nice but 90 minutes of PURE TRUMPET is a whole different thing.
they are made to: pu-pu—-pu-pu-pu
and not: puuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuit’s like the horrible continuous sound you hear year after year in intercontinental cup in japan.

Dunno why it’s so vexing, Jason. But it sounds like a giant bumblebee with a stinger large enough to deflate the world. I will say that they were a lot less annoying on the Spanish language broadcast, which might because the announcers are so giddy with the joy of the beautiful game. Or it could just be a miking thing.
–The Yaya’s dimwitted mouthpiece says we are oh, so close.

The big difference is not that they’re there but how they’re used. For 90 minutes? That’s a little too much.
People in the Americas use them occasionally at best.

They sound really annoying, but i almost dont hear them anymore.

Wouldn’t mind*

The ‘Vuvuela’ as they call them don’t bother me much.. maybe because I’m used to such constant noise while watching Cricket.. or maybe that don’t care much for commentary

Oh and Catalunya Radio says that Valdes has reached an agreement to renew till 2015..

Sport, Marca and EMD are saying VV renewed to 2014.
I still say buy and loan Asenjo. He WILL be the best keeper in the world hands down. There is a little part of me that still wants Villa to sign for EE. There’s part of me that still thinks that Ibrahimovic will force a move once the market calms down.
Here’s more Ibracandy:

I guess Laporta coming back and getting involved helped things along.

OhYes – that video was awesome, thanks for sharing

I figured that Laporta’s return would start hooking some shit up. It’s kind of like “Look, stupid. You aren’t even capped. At what other club are you going to get what you have now? We aren’t paying you 9m, now let’s do a number.”

agree kxevin and hopefully were not giving him 7mil a year

I saw that 7 and i was like i hope to hell its not that much we gave him

Great Xavi/Iniesta video OhYes. Short, too, which was great for the moment.

I think that 7m was our “final offer,” if I recall correctly. It’s a bit excessive, but there really weren’t many other options. Asenjo wants No. 1 status right away, and all the other keepers out there would be expensive/inaccessible.

I love VV, but I still think that if he wants anything over 6.5 million we should let him go. IMO he is one of the most underrated keepers in the world, but Asenjo has the potential to be one of the greatest keepers in the world, and I would be happy to see him as our No.1 next season. And no way would he ask for 9 million a season. Plus, he’s 19 for god’s sake. Looooonnnng future ahead.
Ciaran, no way in hell do I want to see Villa end up at EE. He’s one of the best, if not the best striker in the world. I’m really torn as to whether I’d prefer us to get him or Ibra though. Ibra gives us another option, but has a moon-sized ego. Villa, on the other hand, is a hard worker who is clinical and always gives it up for the team. But he’s very similar to Eto’o, and even though that is obviously not terrible, we will still have trouble against teams who park the bus. Ibra is more of a gamble, but if he adapts and delivers he may well be much more effective in the long run.
Can’t wait for the next post, Kxevin.

I reckon its 12:16 your time Kxevin… where’s our post?

BTW… Villa is definitely not a bus breaker, just look at yesterday’s game against Iran(q)…
I know he scored the goal… but still… He struggled alot. Then again Iniesta and Cesc wern’t there…

-Inter’s Director says that if someone wants Ibra, all they have to do is match Madrid’s transfer fee for Cronaldo
http://www.goal.com/en/news/10/italy/2009/06/18/1333045/ibrahimovic-would-cost-more-than-real-madrid-paid-for-kaka-inter--Seems Jose Antonio Reyes is returning to Atleti. I’m going to follow that, i’ve always really like him. although Spain’s left midfield already has what 5 people competing for it? anyways… i like him more than Santi Cazorla or Diego Capel.

the vuvuzelas could so easily be taken care of by the sound board guys. any sound technician worth his paycheck could make it so that you, at home, would not hear them at such a loud volume. i think sports media outlets just like something to be outraged about. especially during the summer when theres nothing really interesting for weeks at a time.

Ramzi, yes, Egypt played a very good tactical game last night, and even defended free kicks very well for my surprise. just like as we did against Brazil when we played their own passing game, we did it too against Italy, but this time we won the 3 points. we played as a true north African team, wasting time in fantasy theatrics, much to the anger of Gattuso, who is utter shit by the way, I don’t know what Lippi is thinking really starting his squad with him again, besides he don’t seem to be able to keep his shorts.
