holy shit. long way out, but both Sport and El Mundo Deportivo (via Pep’s place) are claiming we’ve reached a personal agreement with Ribery and his agent for a summer transfer. if that’s true, and i REALLY hope it is, that is extremely awesome.

Jesus, Andrew, we’re trying to think of defensive formations, not a working Maginot Line. Give the other team a chance, will you?

I don’t trust EMD or Sport. We’ve “reached personal agreements” with scads of players, according to the press. Ribery is going to be crazy-ass expensive, and as we wouldn’t let Xavi or Messi go, so will Bayern view Ribery. And didn’t he just extend his deal? Or was that Benzema. Rumors are going to be flying hot and heavy between now and the end of summer transfer. We’ll discuss ‘em, but very few of them will be credible.

Great news as per Sport!
Iniesta is back training with the group. Apparently he’s come back from his injury quiker than expected. Boy oh boy will it be nice to have him around again!

So not only does Keita have to miss a game because of the red card from the Espanyol game, but he has to pay a fine. That’s some utter bullshit.
Are refs fined if they have a bad game? I would doubt it, so why should a player be fined for being red carded? His punishment is a red card, a suspension, and less leniency in the future. But a fine?

Isaiah, two other good places to watch football in Philly, depending on what neighborhood you’ll be in:
Bards: 20th and Walnut, next to Irish Pub (Rittenhouse)
700 Club: 700 N. 2nd (No. Lib.)They tend to be quiet, but both have good beer selections and are good options if you’re in their neck of the woods. Dark Horse usually has a few Barca fans at the upstairs bar and is probably the best all around football bar in Philly.
I’m not around center city this weekend unfortunately, maybe Kyle is around to show you some Philly hospitality?

According to Sport and EMD, part of the Ribery deal would be sending Hleb to Munich.
That’s what the kids call win – win.

I used to go to Caliente in Puebla to watch all the games. That’s where I took in the Champions League final (and won money on Barça, of course).

By the way, thank you Colin and ballbeav for adding those places to watch. I’ll try to get them posted soon. I suppose I could add Caliente in Puebla, but I’m not sure how rigorous they are in showing the Barça liga games since I always watched them on ESPN Deportes back when that channel still showed them.

Hang on there, BA, you buried the lede of that story there, hotshot. We reached a pre-agreement with Bayern as well? Holyfreakincrap! I still don’t trust the Catalan media when it comes to our beloved, but that would be some house-rockin’ shit, yo.
Figured that Iniesta would be back quickly. I’m liking this Guardiola fitness and preventive training stuff. Wonder if Abidal will be back early? I still haven’t heard the final word on tear vs pull of his muscle. Anyone?

Nah, even if Abi does comes back earlier than expected ill be 1 or 2 weeks max…

didnt we also reach all these personal agreements with kun too?

Good question Kxevin re Abidal…..we really need him back asap. I am hoping it is not as serious as was originally thought. I also heard that at first they thought it was a tear but then it turned out to be a pull….have not heard this confirmed or denied by anybody yet. LEts all hope we get him back soon. We need our captain in the middle where he belongs!!
As for the Ribery rumours….im sure its all just talk. I remember reading a few months ago that we had already agreed personal terms with Aguero. So which is it? Maybe both
I never believe these stories. That being said I hope its true because Ribery would really be perfect. Watching him play for Bayern the other day made me realise how much we could use a player like him on the left. He is also versatile enough to be as effective on the right, which makes him perfect for our style of play. Im sure that is why Guardiola likes him so much and it wouldnt surprise me if we made a strong attempt to capture him in the summer.Ribery, Eto’o and Messi up front would be quite something…

OK, OK I’m getting converted, and must try my hand at turning ugliness to beauty:

IceMel, I thought you said defensive? Sorry, but Yaya up front is a manita waiting to happen.

With Aguero yes, but not with Atletico. If part 2 of the rumor is true, that we’ve done the pre-deal with Bayern, that’s HUGE.

I LOVE these secret pre-deals and arrangements, if they don’t come to fruition then the dailies simply claim that the secret agreements secretly fell apart.
“Where’s the evidence?” you ask
“Its secret” they reply
Its like a carte blanche on story fabrication. No firm evidence or solid quotes, then take it with a kilo or two of salt.
….Ribery would be AMAZING though. Sick. Just sick.

About tearing vs pulling: There isn’t a lot of difference, mostly only in the severity.
A pulled muscle is a muscle with a *slight* tear.
A tear is more severe than a pull but still partial,
and a torn muscle (complete tear) is a muscle in two pieces.
All muscles with tears–regardless of severity–are “strained.”
So for example, PatientA has a pulled muscle, and PatientB has a torn muscle. Both patients have strained muscles, but PatientA should be back in 1-2 weeks whereas PatientB will require surgery.

Exactly, OhYes. I think that most, even those who know the definitions, think of “tear” as two pieces, as in “sundered.”

Isaiah,
…manita???…
yes there would definately be some pain inflicted!(I take it you didn’t mean it in the turkish or “little sister” sense.)
… wait this is a futbol blog, must be in the Ribery/Bayern sense.
…thanks for the new word. May Yaya and company enjoy one real soon.
