thank god. we still have to ease him into the squad though. its been a long injury. hopefully rijkaard isnt an idiot. i think just let him play a half. that is, unless he’s fitter than i thought.

I expect him to start against Deportivo in order to see how match fit he is. His presence is not the least bit required against Stuttgart, so starting him off and seeing how he’s doing around the 30 minute mark, then the halftime mark is a good idea. Bojan can sub on if Eto’o needs it because Bojan is capable of playing 60 minutes, or you can put on Gudjohnsen.
Now, this is before I’ve written the preview (and thus thought this through), but I think that this should be the starting lineup against Deportivo:
Valdes, Zambrotta, Puyol, Milito, Abidal, Toure, Xavi, Iniesta, Ronaldinho, Messi, Eto’o
Note that that lineup is awesome in every aspect. Imagine if Deco were back and Iniesta/Deco/Xavi was on the bench next to Bojan, Henry, Gio Dos Santos, Thuram, and Marquez. Holy Shostakovich that’s a bench and a half! No sense in ruing what has already happened, but if we can remain healthy (take a baseball bat to wood, if necessary, people!) we will win this title.
Rijkaard may yet leave (would you put up with this shit?), but I think we’ll have a serious good run of form from January through March as the boys find their legs and their comfort level. After March, I think it’s coast-ville. Not that anything I’ve said could ever come back to haunt me.

yeah it wouldnt surprise me if rijkaard left, but it would be a shame, because im very fond of him. i would prefer bojan be subbed on for eto’o instead of guddie, because the experience is great (even if he’s getting ALOT), and i think i would turn off the TV if i saw guddie come on, after his last performance. we honestly wouldve been better off playing with 10 men.
on a completely unrelated topic, batistuta put up his hand for the aussie coaching job (he’s living here for some reason). rijkaard’s name was even mentioned. that would be pretty awesome.

Yay! It’s so good to see Samuel healthy again.
(I really hope Rijkaard at least stays until the end of the season.)

I hate to be the voice of pessimism (actually, when it comes to Barce - I love to) but it was Eto’os return to the squad this time last year that left the locker room in shambles, and ultimately cost them the title. Bear in mind that soon the “Who has the biggest ego in Catalonia” contest will begin in full, and with Ronnie already the press’s whipping boy, Eto’o could put him squarly and perpetually on the bench, and an un-happy Brazilian super star is the first and most important ingrediant in the recipe for disaster (think Alves at the start of the season, and Sevilla’s consequant place in the table).
But actually, I think Laporta has already secured the Biggest Ego of All trophy.
